Well I know there's a few things I'd like to do, but first.. might I suggest a.. well.. suggestion thread? If there are subjects people want to study that haven't been covered already?

I figured I'd get the ball rolling and determine the head count and time frame and then choose what book(s) but I'm open to suggestions.

I don't think we really need to take attendance for this. I have mixed feelings about setting any kind of schedule. On the one hand, people don't like to feel pressured and on the other if there's no accountability people make promises easily and then fade away before the task is done.

If we do want a schedule then someone will have to organize people and crack the perverbial whip.

It's never really been my cup o' tea as it were but I'll commit to something.

I know I can help contribute at least once a week, but probably more than that. Well, if what's in the suggestion thread is any indication to what people want to study... I may need to squeak out. And if anyone says those are easy topics... then you are only displaying your ignorance. The bible is a complicated literary masterpiece. Making the simple wise, albeit sometimes making difficult spiritual references and simplifying them hopefully to something anyone of any education level should be able to figure out.
This will definitely require deep prayer to impart wisdom on our behalf when reading to understand the word. It's the spirit that gives understanding when something seems so hidden from our comprehension. Some things take pouring over for several weeks, and even sometimes years to understand. Even then, you may find 5-10 years later (if even that) that you're previous thinking was childishly shallow and overlooked the steak of the passages.
Anyhow... I'm rambling and I think I got us off topic.. or at least myself.

I'll commit to being in it.

Studied Jonah in detail lately? I'm pretty sure that's not an easy topic once getting out of VeggieTales-grade theology... I spent an entire semester in that book.

Well I personally think free will is pretty easy so why don't I tackle that one?

I would like to suggest that people just pick topic they're interested in and hopefully comfortable with. We all have different levels of understanding in certain areas.

Personally I see little reason to tip toe around topics and only do what we think is 'easy'. I'm fairly certain that nearly any topic that's looked at in detail has a lot more to it that we originally think.

Jonah would probably be pretty interesting, I don't recall any other stories where someone is running away from God and gets physically set back on the right path.

Yeah, that's partly why I picked it. It has a relatively simple message (disobey God, get punished.) but has so many deeper messages to it. We could do simple, but go deeper too.

Saul/Paul? Well I guess he didn't think he was running away from God, but in a sense... that was what he was doing.

What about the parallels of Christ and the Old Testament.
Example: Jesus and Moses... Both almost were almost killed off as a baby by a government order. Both delivered people from oppression. Both saved the people by a "baptism" of water. Ten Commandments/Sermon on the Mount, etc.

There are some other interesting parallels as well. Jesus is often described as the bridegroom and the church the bride. Eve was tricked into entering into sin, but Adam loved her so much that he joined her (Bible never said Adam was fooled)

ahhh but Adam didn't stop her either, perhaps morbid curiosity??

I'm pretty sure he would've stopped her if he had been there. In either case, if we really want to discuss it then perhaps someone should do a study?
