I was wondering if it was a good book cuz the other lord of the rings books were.

It was pretty good. Not nearly as serious or dark as the LotR trilogy, but still a fun read.

Fantastic, though aimed at a younger audience than LOTR. I highly recommend it.

It's Easier to read than LOTR, but just as epic.

It was terrific! Much easier to read and more light-hearted than 'Lord of the Rings'. Plus, it is the background and storyline leading up to the trilogy. It is not only fun and easy to read, but also highly important in understanding the entire storyline.

It was good, but not as good as LotR, IMO. But still really good.

I really enjoyed reading it. I liked the different style in how Tolkien wrote.

I love The Hobbit, oh, and considering my size, I am one!

It was OK IMO.
Personally, I didn't think Tolkien did as well in developing the story as in his other works.
As a side note, IIRC, LOTR, The Hobbit, and the Sil were linked together unintentionally, which definitely shows after a few dozen times of reading.

Do you mean he connected them AFTER the Hobbit was written?
Because if that's the case, yes it shows.

I've never met a Hobbit Necromancer before.

Yes. I think this is a great book. It is one of my favorites. This is a prequel to the Lord of the Rings.

Not quite. He wrote the hobbit first, LOTR and the Silmarillion were intentionally connected; there is a lot of referenced myth back and forth between the two. The hobbit does have a drastically different tone and I believe it was written without LOTR in mind. In fact, a sequel was requested after the hobbit, so Tolkien set off to right LOTR and the Silmarillion. Not sure if he had the bulk of Middle-earth in mind when he wrote The Hobbit or not, though.
