ReKTGlobal Joins Harrisburg University for Special Event Officially Launching the Mid-Atlantic Region’s First NACE Collegiate Esports Program
Harrisburg, PA – December 6, 2017 – Today ReKTGlobal joins Harrisburg University (HU) and the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts to announce a first-of-its-kind collegiate esports collaboration and the official launch of HU’s esports program. ReKTGlobal Vice President of Esports Kevin Knocke will serve as emcee at the launch event, giving guests an inside look at the STEM university’s inaugural varsity sports program.
Serving as a valued advisor and consultant to Harrisburg University as the school officially launches its esports program, ReKTGlobal will help HU develop a strong program that benefits both the university and students. The esports infrastructure services company’s ReKTUniversity arm offers a suite of boutique consulting services to varsity esports programs looking to become and remain competitive, including player and staff recruiting, media strategy, event production and venue retrofitting.
“We look forward to helping Harrisburg University and other colleges bring esports to campuses across the nation,” said ReKTGlobal’s Knocke, an esports veteran who has worn nearly every hat in the esports industry, having been a play by play commentator, marketing and talent manager, video producer and host for some of the biggest esports companies and events in the scene. “Through ReKTUniversity, we can help do it all – from recruiting coaches and players, to resource acquisition and setting up programs and tournaments.”
Harrisburg University is the first Mid-Atlantic university and 50th school in the nation to join the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE), the nonprofit membership association of varsity esports programs at colleges and universities across the U.S. Esports will be the first varsity sport for the science and technology-focused university, located between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, and the team will compete in League of Legends, Overwatch and Hearthstone, along with a pilot program for NBA 2K.
“With the right partners, Harrisburg University will be a force to be reckoned with in collegiate esports,” said ReKTGlobal CEO David Bialek. “From offering 15 full athletic scholarships to securing an esports-ready arena, HU has the elements to take collegiate esports to the next level in the Mid-Atlantic.”
With esports becoming a $1 billion industry this year, a rapidly growing number of colleges and universities have launched varsity esports programs. For the 50 and counting U.S. varsity esports programs, building top-notch teams is an endeavor for which some administrators find themselves unprepared. ReKTUniversity provides an all-inclusive suite of services for varsity esports and helps schools build, plan and grow their esports programs. The esports services company is working to bring the infrastructure of traditional varsity sports to esports, providing soup-to-nuts solutions and sharing best practices to help move collegiate esports forward.
