I wonder if Nintendo actually intended for Mario to be like this.

Maybe somewere, sometime, there was a person who said to him/her self, "Lets make a game, with a deranged psychotic, Itallian, plumber/contruction worker/snake charmer/ (the list goes on)". And the though a second time and said, "and lets MAKE SURE that he's psychotic!"

It wouldn't surprise me that there were refrences like the suggesting Nintendo's first uhm... product.
