The father gives approval. Her mom has already referred to me as "her future son-in-law" so I'm not expecting much disagreement from her (her parents are divorced so I'm declaring intentions to them both separately)

I bought the ring regardless because that's the direction she and I are heading. I really wanted her parents' approval--and I have it--but ultimately the decision comes down to I her and I. It just meant a lot to us to have their approval and support

the parents do appreciate it...my father was upset when my first fiance' neglected to ask him
