Anyone else care much about virtual reality like on the Oculus Rift or with the Virtuix Omni? I've always been passionate about it. What are your opinions on what's going on? Can Facebook help make the Oculus Rift any better? Any other VR stuff?

Very much excited about the Oculus Rift, especially if used with Omni and the Razer Hydra.
Very skeptical of FB's involvement with it, though.

I believe this is a great buy by Facebook in a social network standpoint. In a gaming perspective, I am hopeful it will bring a lot of positive as well. I don't think they have departed from the main purpose of the Oculus which is video games. It's just going to get better quicker if anything.

Might actually have to agree with you here. Facebook is an endless garden hose of development money for Oculus to run with.

And now they have a guy who used to work for Valve working on it as well.
(By the sound of it, he is very experienced in Virtual Reality stuff too.)

I believe you are talking about John Carmack. The man's a tech powerhouse. His word after trying the Oculus got it much respect and publicity.

Yup, and it looks like they got two more developers from Valve as well, Michael Abrash and Aaron Nicholls.
It kinda makes me wonder how Valve feels about this.

Doh. That's right. Abrash is Valve, and Carmack left ID.

Okay, so we got two VR savants and a bottomless development funds backing the Rift. This looks pretty hopeful after all.

Well, funds almost always comes with some strings attached. The bigger the funds, the more entangled the strings.
Now, Facebook might be more Laissez-faire about it than other companies and they might even utilize their experience on developing platforms to make the Rift even more accessible, so it can turn out to be a good thing. I'll remain skeptical on it and we'll see if this bad taste in my mouth is unjustified.
