Lord of the Rings Online

Hello, all,

I know that I've been absent for a very long time, and I'd like to first explain: I've been doing college classes in high school through a program called PSEO, and it's really hard. Still, I do get occasional easy days, and on those, I sometimes like to play a game called Lord of the Rings Online.

I just got to wondering if, this being a Christian gaming site, there might be some fellow LOTRO players on here, and if we might want to find each other in-game sometime. If so, you can usually find me under the username "Nathanniel," in the kinship "In Christ Alone." By the way, if you play LOTRO and you'd like to join a Christian kinship, I'd be more than happy to welcome you in! It's pretty small, just me and two other guys right now, but it's a great opportunity to spread the gospel over the internet, a medium that more and more people are using these days.

At any rate, it'd be nice to meet some new people on here, or even some old friends, with a new common interest, so I look forward to seeing if this thread garners some replies.

Thanks, and God bless!

Yes.

I've just recently started playing it, and have no real idea what I'm doing, or how to do it. But it's fun.

Glad to hear it, Chozon1! I play on the Withywindle server, so if you'd ever like some company doing quests and getting directions, I'd be glad to join you.

Also, Micah, you do have to download it, and it takes a really long time to do so. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. Still, it's a lot of fun, once you get the hang on it! If you want to check it out, just look up "lotro.com."

One more thing to everyone: be careful if you do get it. It can be really addicting, and just recently I've had to take a break from it to straighten out my priorities. Whenever something becomes a larger part of your life than God, it's time to put it away.

I grabbed it through Steam. 18 gig download. O_o

I've been Playing on Evernight so far, I think. Trying to get a horse.

Oh yeah, getting a horse can be annoying. It takes forever.

I've got it, just haven't played it. It took so long to load that I forced it to shut down so I could play something else. Is it normal for it to take a long time to load?

Well, the download itself takes about 6-10 hours (yes, hours), and the very first time you start it up it has to update, so that takes a bit. Still, every other time you start the game up, with some rare exceptions of updates that come maybe once or twice a year, it starts up pretty fast. It's just the first time that takes forever.

Once you do get it up and running, I'd recommend either Withywindle (the server I play on), or Evernight, which I've heard some others play on. The annoying part is that your characters are different on each server, so once you log into a server and start building up a certain character, you're pretty much committed to that server for your main character.

Haha, yeah. That's pretty much what is stopping me from starting. XD
(Or was it some error I got? Well, I haven't really been in the mood for a MMORPG a while either.)

By error do you mean unable to start it on Win8? And yeah having your characters server locked is sort of annoying.

Well, I guess all that the server thing means is that you develop a community with the same players and get to know certain people better. Plus, it makes it a lot easier to identify people, since you always know what server they play on. The only annoying part is if your friends that you know already happen to play on a different server. For example, I play on Withywindle, but one of the other people on here could play on Nimrodel, Arkenstone, Evernight or a dozen others.

Ok sounds good. I'll probably start on Withywindle.

Sounds good, Emwok, I look forward to seeing you in-game sometime! Again, you should see my IGN as "Nathanniel," or basically anyone with the kinship name "In Christ Alone" below their character name.

They should add a server switch feature. That way you could switch your character over to your friends server.
Surprised Turbine hasn't thought of this. They could charge a fee for it and people would still use it.

Actually they did, but... it cost a lot. o_O
It's about $24.95 for one character.
