“Gamers who are really into getting to the next level or collecting all of the in-game items seem to have unhealthier video-game use,” Hilgard said. “When people talk about games being ‘so addictive,’ usually they’re referring to games like Farmville or Diablo that give players rewards, such as better equipment or stronger characters, as they play. People who are especially motivated by these rewards can find it hard to stop playing.”

I do love to 100% games... or at least try, XD
though that doesn't really effect how constantly I play it.
As I ether like to save it for later, or forget I was trying to master it.
Though I am surprised they didn't say anything about a game's story,
some stories in games can really push you to keep playing till you beat the game.

I can certainly understand what the article is saying. Especially about MMOs. I've picked up a few behaviors with my own game playing habits thanks to my time in Everquest and World of Warcraft. The main one that comes to mind is the feeling that (usually while playing off-line RPGs) I need to get my characters to safety before I'm done for the night. It really doesn't matter - while I'm not playing, nasty creatures are NOT going to slaughter my characters while my computer is turned off. In fact, they're not even going to move. When the RPG is not running, they don't exist any more than my characters do. But still, the compulsion to return to town is there... even at 1 in the morning on a work night.
