I've heard that these are in the games... but I have no idea how to get them, or even what they're supposed to mean. Can anyone elaborate? I know that one of the conditions is that you have to play as Snake (a character I have trouble with...).

According to resources, you have to tap the left analog stick down quickly while playing as Snake in Shadow Moses Island.

I think you also need to play against certain characters as Snake top unlock different codecs.
