In essence what we are working on is improving the public image of the gamer. We are doing this by focusing on the good images in gaming. The ones families and churches can get behind.

I'm sure it''s unintentional, but I couldn't help but think, "GET BACK IN THE KITCHEN AND MAKE ME A SAMMICH!" when I saw this thread. Could you post the article in a spoiler so that I can actually read it? I can't seem to pull up your site.

here's a quote from my Epic Mickey Power of Illusion review:
As a female gamer, I was a little disappointed with the stereotypical side quests given by many of the princesses in the fortress. Wendy requested that I locate a needle and thread, Cinderella needed some cloth (she even mended Mickey’s shorts for him), Snow White wanted a broom, Rapunzel a frying pan, and Tiana needed a cook book. I always wondered why princesses (Peach) were often kidnapped and I think I figured it out. Only a princess would enjoy cooking, cleaning, and sewing in confinement.

Nate:

"Not All Video Game Role Models are Bad

Cordova TN – FEBRUARY 8, in the year of our Lord 2013 – You do not have to go far to see how bad the image of the gamer is. The lazy lay-about who is so self absorbed he can not even do chores for his parents, or spouse. The worthless screw up who can't get a simple fast food order correct. The hate mongers on message boards who attack anything good, clean, and decent. The school shooter that murders countless others because he was trained to do so thanks to violent video games. The media loves to show gamers as some of the dredges of society. There are plenty of video gamers who reinforce those stereotypes too.

There are definitely those gamers who repeat the bad role models in the industry. There are also good role models in the video game industry. The ones that few media outlets report on. There are characters like MAMA. Majesco Entertainment took the family gaming scene by storm with Cooking Mama. Here is a wonderful role model for girls and women. She cooks, she gardens, she babysits, and she goes camping. She does all of these with and for her family. She teaches girls how to cook, do a good job, be careful, and help others.

Mama shows there is no shame in keeping house. She shows it is a lot of hard work to keep a house going. Mama shows how much diversity and excitement there is in cooking. She exhibits how to take care of a baby. Mama relays the joys of gardening. She trains us in how to be efficient in all areas of housekeeping. Mama reminds us how wonderful it is to spend time with our families. Mama shows the important role women play in the family and the home.

The next time someone talks about the horrible lessons video games teach, and how they are destroying the youth of America – bring up Mama. Tell them about a traditional lady in video games who is purposely reinforcing good traditional family values. Ask the media why aren't they giving Mama the same amount of coverage they give the bad video game characters.
"

Over the years there has been a media demonization of the stay at home mom. The result has been gender confusion. Women that work in the home do as much if not more than women in the work place.

My mother was a stay at home home maker. I remember something she said about it:
"How is having both parents away from the neighborhood with a bunch of kids running around make it a safe neighborhood?" In essence how does no adult supervision make it a better neighborhood?

Another thing she taught me was how the life expectancy of women dropped when they entered the work force. Not only that but their heart attack rates increased. I remember her saying: "Why would I want to work out there to die earlier."

My wife is a stay at home mom. I take care of two of my three meals - myself. I take care of one of the meals out of three for our kids. When she is sick I take care of all meals for everyone in the family.

The media has been very successful at portraying this issue in a certain light. I believe they have done a dis-service to women, and families with their portrayal. They have also strayed away from what the Bible teaches on this topic. For me I can do and say what man says is right, or what God says is right. I gotta go with God.

Don't they do shopping too? :) Cinderella 2 was all about planning a banquet, or ball or something like that. Cinderella went away from what had been done in past years and went with what she felt comfortable with.

I am certainly not saying that we need to deny women opportunities. More like if its okay to celebrate women in the workforce, why can't we also celebrate women who choose to stay at home for their families? God can call women to all kinds of professions. Should the choice to work besmeerch the choice to stay home?

After three kids one of us stayed home as well. For a while it was Jay, he absolutely hated being called Mr. Mom. When my job was out sourced I stayed at home with the kids. What cracked me up about the Epic Mickey is that the quests we're stereotypical and lop sided. I didn't bring a hammer, lawn mower or a drill to any of the captured males.

That would have been awesome if you could have. :)

In all seriousness - ask DIS. You know do an interview of 10-15 questions and place one in there about it. It is something we have done for years. Posed a question or two to get the developers thinking about it from a perspective they are not seeing or hearing. I remember doing that with Capcom one year. I was playing one of their Capcom vs titles with the lead publisher/director (whatever he was) of the game. I asked him about giving us the choice of a different outfit for the bouncing around female characters. He was surprised and told me no one had ever said anything about it before. I let him know we received numerous complaints about the attire of the scantily clad dressed women, and they were more than just sex objects. Could we have the choice of a less revealing outfit.

So it would not surprise me that they are not hearing it from anyone.
