I don't know your proficiency with music theory, but from my small knowledge of it, learn your chords. Fourth, fifths, minors, etc.

And when in doubt, it's okay to roll with the classic I V vi IV.

Hmmm... I am not sure myself,
though you could try pressing semi-random keys that sound good together,
then if you think you got something that sounds good, write it down.
Then you can try to improve it, and perhaps add more instrument voices. (if your keyboard has different voices.)

*Shrug*

I haven't tried composing a full track or anything,
but I would like to give it a try pretty soon.

If you haven't studied Music Theory, I highly recommend it.
I mean, music isn't random and music theory describes the mechanics of it.

The little I know about it given me great tools in the ability to come up with new tunes or lines. This is something I have to do frequently when playing the bass.

Haha indeed,
I myself just always needed to play around on the piano a bit to get started/to get inspiration.

Sup fellow music lovers.
Yea, music theory is very important.
I will be coming out with an album some time this week so I'll post when I get it finished.

I've written many songs by simply starting with a chord progression that I like. Say, Em G D A. Then I keep playing those chords over and over until I come up with a tune in my head, and from there I begin writing the lyrics.
