Will Smith is dead the entire movie.

Not sure if that's true, but just from the trailer, it almost seems obvious. :/

The boy is Will Smith.
*what a twist*

The boy is a clone of Will Smith, and the entire ship was crewed by clones of Will Smith, such that everybody was exactly the same... So that the one who got blown away is indistinguishable from the one who lived. The boy was a clone who just hadn't matured yet, to replace a lost crewman.

I just realized it's actually directed by M. Night Shymalan.
And I was just joking about it.

On the one hand, I love surprise twists.

On the other hand, if I'm expecting one, it's very distracting trying to figure it out.

I'm already trying to guess it from the trailer. I think Phoenix is on a good one, where the dad's dead all along and the boy is alone on the planet.

Now, I really want Shymalan to do well with this movie. He's been doing worse and worse with each subsequent film, and I feel like he has more to offer in terms of good movies than just Sixth Sense. If he keeps away from making it about the plot twists, and focuses on the story of a boy learning to conquer fear and become a man, he can have something pretty resonating. Bildungsroman has a lot of potential of really connecting with an audience and capturing some facet that makes us men or just human, and really can't think of any good ones I've seen recently.

Agreed. I like his films more than most people do, but I'm in agreement that they've gotten weaker over time. I was honestly surprised to learn he directed this one.

Wait, we're guessing the twist?

Will Smith is actually M. Night Shyamalan, and his entire goal is to destroy the world by making everyone watch The Happening and The Last Airbender.

...I didn't watch the trailer.

Maybe as we get closer to release date, we should start a poll to guess the twist...

Possible options could be:

-Will Smith is dead the whole time
-The boy is a clone of Will Smith
-The movie is set in the distant past, not the future
-It's called Earth, but isn't this planet at all
-It's all a training exercise
-The boy is dead the whole time
-Both characters are dead the whole time
-The characters are exiles and were sent there on purpose

It seems like once in a while there are films made around the same time with similar premises (Bug's Life \ Antz, Red Planet \ Mission to Mars, etc). And it seems like this film parallels Tom Cruise's Oblivion...both are about post-Earth sci-fi stories.

"I see dead people... in space."

First thing that popped into my head after reading your sentence. :D
