They all have separate storylines. I just play whatever one I feel like playing. But I haven't played any Final Fantasy games lately. I'm waiting for FFXIV: A Realm Reborn and Final Fantasy Versus XIII:

I know but I'm relatively new to the series and I want to play from the beginning. Played the original through 6 now.

If you look carefully at the trailer for FF Versus XIII, you will notice it has a very similar style to that of Kingdom Hearts.

I do agree that FF6 has a great overworld theme.
I was going post some music from FF6, but I think I better wait till you beat it.
(I don't want to somehow give out spoilers with music... somehow...)

Also, CCGR. When/If you're finished with FFVII, watch the movie, then play FFVII: Dirge of Cerberus. Otherwise, you won't get the whole story.
