Hi, I'm new here. I already posted quite a bit about myself so I'll just ask a question here, do I have to have a lot of memory on my computer to play minecraft on your server? My computer is quite old and does not have a whole lot of memory, will it be able to handle mincraft? I have heard that some laptops have strained under the pressure from this game although I have a desktop, not sure if that makes any difference?

Our 3 year old laptop and 1 year old desktop both struggle to run Minecraft. Here's a few things I've found helped:
- Use the client, not the browser
- Go into task manager > processes and set the priority of "java" to "High"
- Particles - minimal
- Clouds - none
- Graphics - fast
- Render distance - short or medium (tiny is too hard to use)
- 8x8 texture pack
- Plug in a thumb drive and "Use ReadyBoost to speed up the computer"
- Close all the other programs you have open
Also, when I get a chance, I'm going to install Optifine - I've heard it really helps.

I think you need at least a gig of ram to run Minecraft.

There might be other things at play, 4 gigs should be more than enough.
Did you ever go hunting for bloatware?

Is bloatware software that makes programs use more memory than they should? No, I've never looked for any. How would I do that?

Just stuff running in the background hogging up memory. Whenever you buy a prebuilt computer, it seems they install a ton of them. The first thing I do is open up msconfig, go to the startup list and disable everything I don't want opening when I boot up my computer. (don't worry about stuff like Java will start up automatically when you need it)
It also helps running MalwareBytes to remove any malware or spyware you might have eating up system resources (and generally causing mischief)
These little things helps greatly increase the life of one's computer.
