The Ending to Mass Effect 3 **Spoilers hidden**

So last night I beat Mass Effect 3.

I admit that I was scared to. I've heard a lot about the ending being awful, to the point where it's become a new meme. "Still a better ending than Mass Effect 3."

And I LOVE LOVE LOVE Mass Effect. I loved it when I first played the first one, as my first game on my brand new XBox 360. I loved ME2. I was loving ME3...

But dreading the end, because people told me it SUCKED.

So it was with great trepidation that I triggered the events leading to the game finale.

The first time, I missed a lot of the subtle hints about what was going on, and I boogered it up royally. After I understood my error, I went back to my last save and finished it again, armed with the proper understanding of what was happening.

AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!

You clever devils you.

I berated myself for not seeing what's perfectly obvious and what a guy like me, who loves to analyze these things, should have seen. Maybe I was distracted by my fear of the ending being bad so I wasn't paying close enough attention. I dunno. Either way, I think it was a terrific ending to a terrific game and I'm sad it's over.

So if you're playing it and are afraid of the ending, let me reassure you... It will be awesome. Just stay true to yourself as Shepard, and you'll love it.
Spoiler:
But the Galaxy has been left in a state where there can be no sequels that bear even the slightest resemblance to the existing games.

And what's up with the ending? It's all about whether or not Shepard can resist the Indoctrination process which culminates at the end!

I actually just wrote a blog post (which should hopefully be posted the same day as Drew's review) about the topic. I flip-flopped so many times, I hated it, then loved it, then hated it, and then finally realized what it really is: broken. There are some fantastic ideas, but they need to be explained better, and all the loose ends need to be tied up. Once they fix that though, I think it may be one of the best endings in recent history.
