Hidden Gem of Faith in Deep Space Nine

I know DS9 ain't exactly a new series.

I decided, since it's on Netflix, to go through and watch the entire series from start to finish, since I had never watched the entire series before. I was watching the other night and I was shocked to hear the following few lines of dialogue:

Worf: Do not attempt to convince them, Major. They can not understand.
Dax: Since when did you believe in the Prophets?
Worf: What I believe in... is faith. Without it, there can be no victory. If the captain's faith is strong, he will prevail.
Dax: That's not much to bet his life on.
Worf: You're wrong. It's everything.

I had to rewind the video to be sure I heard that right.

A well - liked character, in STAR TREK speaking highly of faith? Pardon me for a moment while I sit down. The topic being discussed in that scene was, in fact, focused on religious faith in particular, not just generic "I believe in him" faith.

I <3 Worf now.

Butbutbut...that quote is rather ambiguous; more existential than faithful. You can believe in the power of faith without believing that faith is more than gumption, is what I mean.

Still, Worf is like one of my favourite characters.

Ah, but that's just it... the comment was made within the context of a conversation about religion in particular. When Worf mentions the Captain's faith, it's because at that time Sisko was receiving visions from the Bajoran Prophets... but these visions were damaging his brain in such a way that his life was in danger. He refused to let the doctor perform the surgery to remove them because he believed the visions were genuine. It was Sisko's faith in the Prophets vs. the Federation secular approach that would perform the surgery.
