Firefight is a survival mode. Your team (of up to four people) is given a limited number of lives, and you have to take out wave after wave after wave of enemies. The achievements are actually pretty neat in general. Most are acquired through campaign completion or getting over 200,000 points on each Firefight map... which can be hard, but not too bad if you've got a full team of quality players.
I mean. I lasted 20 minutes on my last life.
