Just Cause 2.

Or, I beat the main storyline. I'm only like 30% done with 23 hours or so in.

Dragon Age 2

And 35 hours later, I'm done. Man oh man, this game has an epic story, with threads that span the entire game... and the characterizations all feel like they matter. It's... an excellent game. Not as good as Mass Effect 2 or KotOR, but not many games are.

Fable 3

Uh... I've never been a fan of the Fable games. Like, at all. I played this out of sheer boredom... and while I had moments of fun during the actual playing of the game, a lot of problems presented themselves. I hated how sexual and scatological the game's humor got at times. Yes, you made a fart joke. For the fifteenth time. In a row. It's not funny. Oh, and you followed that up with a thinly veiled sexual reference? How novel. I dislike the game's combat, because it's too button-mashy and too same-y. The graphics are middling at best, but generally seem incredibly lazy... and it's absolutely appalling that the game's frames still drop, even when nothing's happening on screen. These guys should take some hints from Bungie and Rockstar on how to actually stream data off a disc, because here, it's just not working.

But the size of the world is impressive, and Albion has its charms. The last half of the game also provides some very, very hard decisions to make; these are literally some of the most difficult I've ever made in a game, even if they seem all too black and white at times. The only time that any sort of shade of gray comes into play is when you're making decisions that aren't being appealed by people in your court. Essentially, this boils down to three decisions, so there's that.

Still... Fable 3 seems worth playing, to me. It's not necessarily the best game I've ever played, nor is it the worst, but you could certainly do worse than this.

Afraid of Monsters

Got all 3 normal endings and then the final ending. I was stumped for a while on the boss and was afraid I was going to have to resort to using god mode, but then I found a video on the internet that showed how to defeat him, so I did, not hard when you know the trick. The final ending was positive, that was certainly welcome after the grim 3rd ending. Fun game, one of the best mods I ever played for Half-Life (and I've played a lot).

Next I will be playing some user-made single player campaigns for System Shock 2, because I love the SS2 gameplay but the normal levels get a little old. This German woman called Christine made 4 complete campaigns, not just new maps but new graphics, videos, voice acting and all. I already checked the first one out for a while and it looks great. Looking forward to it!

Finished the System Shock 2 user-made campaign I was talking about. Apart from some iffy voice acting, it's very good. Excellent level design, and lots of little details and new interactable objects were added to flesh out the game world. There are even some new enemy types (although they're really easy to defeat).

There are 3 more campaigns made by this author, I've already installed the second one, which starts from where the first one leaves off. Although maybe I'll play something else in between now. I think I'll go check if Steam or gog.com have anything cheap I want to play.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow

Uhh... not entirely sure what to say about this.

The new Castlevania is pretty much a direct pastiche (no other word for it, sorry) of a number of games. Basically, it takes bits and pieces wholesale from other titles, like God of War and Shadow of the Colossus. However... the magic system and health system are entirely new, really enjoyable, and tie into the (difficult) combat pretty well. Also, the game is dark. Like... the worst I've ever played. But the ultimate message - of God's ultimate redemption of the sinner, of the saving grace of God - make the game worth it. I've rarely actually felt that uplifted after beating a game. Seriously.

Good stuff... proceed with caution, though.
