Filtered or non-filtered beer?

Yeah, I'm a big Les Claypool/Primus fan.ScotchRobbins wrote:The former... Oh my God, that was incredible...
I don't feel strongly about it one way or the other, but I've just noticed my favorites were filter, but that's just because most of them are to preserve shelf life. The unfiltered I usually see, in my own experience, tend to be Belgians, which rarely interest me. Not until they become trippels or quads.Orodrist wrote:Filtered or non-filtered beer?
I might need to just drink more beer to make an opinion on it.

I have many thoughts on Interstellar. So many that it might finally cause me to start a blog about it for film critique and analysis. My liberal arts education has sparked a literary/media critic.
Suppose you have a narrative spectrum: Complete scientific accuracy with the sacrifice of interesting plots <-> essentially fantasy science "magic" (a la Star Wars) with excellent plots.
Where do you like the stories you read to fall?

Um, I like both, as I both enjoy Sci-Fi and Fantasy.
A lot of people lump those into one category, aka Nerd Central, but they are fantastically different and one likes them for different reasons.
Fantasy, including Future and Space Fantasy, should be more concerned about "magic," plots, characters, worlds (especially worlds), and literary symbolism. Science Fiction, on the other hand, should err on the side of less errors.
I mean, that's the thing. Nobody cares about the scientific inaccuracies of Star Wars, but we love to rip Star Trek a new one for each little infraction, and the big ones, too. Star Wars is fantasy and Star Trek is Science Fiction.

We aren't in disagreement, but I think we misunderstood each other. XD
Let's be more direct: Soft or Hard Science Fiction?

Haha, you saw through my ruse.
I'm not sure, it's more on my mood, I suppose.
I might be more leaning to soft. I love big and fantastic worlds. If you can build one on good science concepts, you probably won my love, but I'm probably more likely to like one that has an interesting world over one that has good science but a little short-sighted in it's scope.

Ever had a good Demerara rum?
I insisted on buying the rum for my moms cake (because ew, Bacardi Gold) and ended up with a bottle of El Dorado 12. I was impressed. Almost at the level of complexity and oakiness as a good whisk(e)y and blows pedestrian whiskies out of the water, but it has a molasses character with lots of tropical notes of banana and fruit.

I'm having a hard time not making a noticeable drop in the bottle. It's still assertively a rum, and by extension sweet, but it has an oakiness you don't see in more common rums and having a base in coarse sugar instead of cane juice adds a lot of character.
What are you drinking on at the moment?

Went halfsies with a friend on a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue (it was $127 at Costco), and I'm waiting for him before I crack it open.
He expressed interest in scotch and we were talking about splitting a bottle of blue, so, when then sale came up at costco, I couldn't resist.
