Wow that's a tough one... So many to choose from...
Actually, the one that stands out to me the most is that's where I realized that it isn't cold in space, despite how it's often portrayed in movies. It's stuff like that which inspired the thread about he realities of space travel.

I always get a kick out of reading the "Real Life" entries of various tropes, when they're listed. For example, in the listing for "Improbable Antidote" it indicates that a treatment for radiation poisoning is heavy consumption of alcohol. And speaking of drinking - and yes, this is specifically focusing on LDS beliefs here - we both know that the Word of Wisdom advises us to abstain from drinking alcohol. But do you know if there are any prohibitions against owning a bar? Or a brewery?

I would imagine that falls under the same heading as shopping on Sunday, a day we're not supposed to work... You'd be enabling and encouraging others to do that which you abstain from doing yourself. Two questions for you.
First: How valuable would you say Java is as a programmer skill? I feel like I've been getting more positive responses from recruiters who see I have Java and C/C++ on my resume as opposed to just C/C++, and I'm wondering if adding Java really made that much of a difference.
Second: I heard from multiple people at my internship this summer that Java will go the way of the Mainframe: Almost no one will actively develop for it, and lots of people will be needed to maintain existing codebases that run systems that are too expensive to re-implement. I'm not sure how to feel, since I'm only just getting into the industry, but what say you?

It means the difference of about $35,000/yr for me. I make almost twice as much as a Java guy as I did when I was developing in .NET. I've seen no evidence of that. Commonly used open source technologies like Liferay and Drupal, which rely heavily on Java, are growing rapidly.
