ikr? I knew I'd love the Audioslave album, as they are one of my favorite bands out there (yeah yeah, even if they're "dead" :P )... but man, Superunknown is equally awesome. Do love SG. o.o

See why I'm stoked about their return?

Kim Thayil is one of the unsung guitar gods of the 90s.

I'd argue that his playing is actually better on Badmotorfinger, but that's simply because the album was more "metal." Superunknown is a grunge album through and through, with touches of sludge at the edges (4th of July, Mailman, Limo Driver), but because of that, the solos are where you really get to see Thayil's talent. Badmotorfinger, on the other hand, is more directly influenced by Zep and Sabbath, so you end up hearing more of that blues-metal influence that really informed a lot of the bands early-mid period work (like... after Louder than Love and Screaming Life/FOPP, but during Badmotorfinger and the preceding EP). Then the band went full-on grunge with Superunknown, and finally went into a sort of prog-rock sound with Down on the Upside (which, I admit, is one of my favorites, despite being remarkably uneven).

But Badmotorfinger... I mean, from opener Rusty Cage to the chaotic intro of Jesus Christ Pose (which segues into sledgehammer drums and just insane riffs from Thayil) to any other cut on the album, every song is basically a guitar classic.

But I still like Superunknown more. XD

Almost bought Badmotorfinger instead of Superunknown. Doesn't really matter though, as I need to get all of them. But yes, I will say that Thayil's solos are epic to say the least. I still like Morello better (tough to beat my favorite guitarist all time :p), but this dude... he's good. Very good.

I also am starting to think Chris Cornell might just be... mah favorite male vocalist all time. Love him in Audioslave, love him in Soundgarden.

I just picked up Thousand Foot Krutch's newest album, Welcome to the Masquerade. Amazon gave me a five dollar MP3 credit for some reason, so I went to see how much this would cost me. It turns out they're selling it for $5 right now (which is pretty cheap anyway). After my credit, it was totally free.

Win? Yes. Absolutely.

Haven't had a chance to listen for more than a minute yet, but it seems good so far.

<3 Trevor McNevan. He's easily one of my favorite Christian songwriters right now... and has been for years.

Mutiny Within - Mutiny Within

I've been listening to these guys for a couple of months now via the Zune Pass, and I finally decided to buy their album. I heard somewhere that they were a combination of Killswitch Engage and Dream Theater... so that automatically sparked a lot of interest in them, for me. Both of those bands are definite influences, but Mutiny Within develops their own sound and never sounds like a copycat of either KsE or DT.

MW is probably in my top ten favorite overall bands now... and easily my favorite new band.

I'm very impressed with these guys, and I'm looking forward to what they're going to do in the future.
