Oh I know about all those mods stavix. Playing morrowind with better graphics would be nice, but I've had my fill with developers and players assuming what I like. CS, I will admit that there is truth in what you say. But about everything else (spell creation and such) actually made Morrowind better and to me it always felt that Vvardenfell was more expansive then Skyrim (to me anyway) and as much as I complain about getting lost (which is quite frequent, no sense of direction), I enjoyed it in Morrowind. With Skyrim, it was too easy to find your way from point a to point b (I know that sounds bizarre). I liked having things a bit more... challenging(?) in Morrowind.
I can understand the need to mod, but I don't really want companies to be reliant on it to a point of letting their games become sloppier and sloppier, all because they know that the players will fix their mistakes. It feels that Bethesda puts out the least ammount of effort whenever they develope a game. I don't blame the players so much on this, but as I said... I have a real problem with developers and players assuming what they like is best for me.
They aren't the only game company to do this, grinding gears is a great example and are on my ignore list for this reason.

You're right, the gamer designers should not make a game that they would like to play.

So are you saying that visually impaired people should never play video games because a developer wants to make things "their way" instead of the right way? Are you saying that they do not matter, that they have never mattered, that nobody should pay any attention to what they might want from time to time? Don't tell me that you can't make a game visually accessible, game developers do it all the time.

It's such a small market share as to be functionally irrelevant. That's like complaining a game doesn't have a Farsi language option.

I'm not even sure how to address that. What constitutes a visually accessible game and how visually impaired? I need glasses, does that count? Color blindness? Something more severe?

Once again, you've brought up something no one was talking about.

Mac compatibility?

Game developers and players who create mods don't assume to know what you like. Most of them don't give a rat's patootie what you like (actually, scratch that - most game developers and players don't even know
you exist). They make what
they like, and they hope that enough players will care enough about the end result to make their efforts worthwhile (for game developers and companies, this equals profits which keeps them and the other workers employed). If you don't like the game, don't buy it. If you don't want to install a mod, then don't. That's the wonder of freedom of choice. No one is forcing you to pay for games you don't want to play.
It's quite arrogant of you to think that the entire gaming industry revolves around you, your interests and your needs. That makes about as much sense as me demanding that every video game be natively Mac-compatible - and is deserving of the same contemptuous laughs that such a demand would earn. After reading that, if you feel indignant and think that game developers should
still cater to your every whim, you may need to crack open your Bible and look up a few verses about humility.

In fact, I think it would be safe to venture to say that the games that are
only out there to pander and "make a buck"
can be some of the worst.
From my own experience, I think my own games got better when I stopped trying to copy the popular stuff that other people were doing and made what I wanted to play.

Some of those "pay to play" "freemium" games come immediately to mind... no surprise that none of those have made it into this thread.

I had heard that there were a few game designers floating around the forums... what have you developed? Any links you want to share? Or would this be better in a different thread?

I've made several games, but there's two that I'm especially proud of. The first is SpaceJourney, which combines first person shooting with space simulation \ exploration. I have an
indieDB page for it and I did make a
thread for it on here. So the thread will be more concise in terms of what its about, the best screens and download link, but the inideDB page stays more active because indieDB gives developers great incentives for updating their games (i.e. gets bumped to the top of the list and gets noticed).
The other is an
adventure game, called TonightMan! about a costumed hero who's paid to fight crime. Its kind of short but meant to be humorous. I'm also trying to wrap up a short comic based on the same character.

Awesome! Please let me know what you think, when you get a chance to play them! (I am open to constructive criticism, since that can only help the game get better)
