I know, not exactly the popular choice here, but it's pretty sleek.
You know, I think Visual Studio (Especially 2013) and the .NET technologies are among the most pleasurable software development environments ever. Visual Studio is slick and effective, and combine that with a garbage-collected language such as C# and it's interoperability with other .NET languages, and you've got an effective, easy to use system.
On a different note, how do you feel about frameworks such as Grails, Ruby on Rails, Play, Django, Laravel, etc?
In addition, I'm looking for some freelance work on the side, probably web development (And preferably in Java, Groovy/Grails, or Ruby on Rails). Do you know of any good sites to start freelancing my services, or any resources on how to freelance effectively?

Wish I could tell you more on those, but I haven't tried those frameworks out. Working often gets you zoned in to certain technologies.
Haven't done freelance development, either, so I don't quite know. I'm assuming you want money with this and not just experience, like joining an Open Source project.

Your reaction when Humongous Entertainment put their games on Steam?

I had to look that one up. Never played those games, but it's an interesting move. Maybe might hit on the nostalgia note for the now older gamers, which is definitely a seller, or it's opening up steam to younger gamers, even. Maybe even the gamer who now has kids.

Do you work much with Sharepoint?

Aww, I was so sure you mentioned something about playing Putt-Putt.
I guess I'll have to look back on older games I have played and see if you have played them as well.
Well, this is only going back a few more years but... have you ever played Super Mario Bros. 3?
Or any of the games in the classic Megaman series?

That actually separates me from a lot of gamers. I wasn't a Nintendo kid. So I don't have a past time of Megaman, Metroid, Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, etc. When most people wax nostalgia over gaming, I can't relate so much. They talk about their SNES and I look back at old 4X Strategy games.

Oh man, sorry! Didn't even see it. Feast or famine, right?
No, for being as much of a MS cronie as I am, I haven't done work with Sharepoint. Are you going to have to work with it?

No I was just curious because I've heard that Web Parts in Sharepoint are roughly analogous to portlets in a Java portal, and I want to know more about it.

It's probably something worth looking into if I'm going to continue with this .NET thing.

Ahh, I should have known you were a PC gamer even back then.
So I am guessing you think back to games like Age of Empires, Starcraft, Sid Meier's Civilization?
What other 4X Strategy games did you play back then?
Also have you played Myst? (It's funny, I thought I asked this question about Myst before.

)

All of dem. So much yes.
There is also Master of Orion, both 1 and 2. Master of Orion 2, if I'm honest, has to be my favorite game and it's been more than known as the crown of space 4X's. I can't say how much I like this one. Like, if you were interested in it, I'd buy it for you (especially if it goes on sale on GOG.com).
Alpha Centauri is also a really good one.
I have played a tiny bit of Myst, but not enough to get more than the premise and mechanics.

Wow those must be quite amazing then,
I am definitely going to have to look up some info.
Oh yeah, on a rather unrelated note: have you ever played VVVVVV?
