Nah, I deal with so many separate computers on a daily basis... I need them ALL to be the same or there's no way I can get anything done fast.

I was briefely interested in it, but then it occurred to me that having to code, test, play, code, test play... Would take all the "magic" out of it and probably make me sick of video games... A fate worse than death!ArchAngel wrote:Are you or have you been interested in game development? If so, what was the dream game you wanted to make?
If I WERE to get into it I think I'd want to work on a Turn Based Strategy, sci fi type game. There seems to be a very limited pool of them out there and yet it's my favorite type of game.

Oh, man, do I love me some turn based sci-fi games. Master of Orion 2 is one of my all time favorites.
But then, Galactic Civilizations, XCOM, Alpha Centauri, and Endless Space are all pretty good too...
What a great subgenre to be a fan of. I should have known you'd have a masterful taste.

My fav was actually Star Wars Rebellion... which I've also heard described as an RTS... so it was sort of a hybrid.ArchAngel wrote:Oh, man, do I love me some turn based sci-fi games. Master of Orion 2 is one of my all time favorites.

There was a Turn based space strategy game many years ago called Stars! which was a free download... but what got me really excited was a GameInformer article about the sequel which was to be called Stars! Supernova Genesis and the article made it look AWESOME.
The problem was that the company who developed it folded before they found a publisher for the game.

I can't say, as I never played Empire at War. Rebellion was realtime in the sense that there weren't specific turns, but it didn't feel like an RTS because it was a multi-faceted strategy game where actual combat played a minimal role. With diplomacy, resource management, strategic level fleet tactics and judicious use of special characters, there were a variety of ways to win/lose the game. If you ever get a chance to play it, I highly recommend it.

Rebellion had a very rudimentary 3D combat system that had oodles of potential but just seemed unfinished. Combat was VERY slow between capital ships and even though you could order specific maneuvers like hammer, anvil, left and right hook... the ships moved so slowly it really didn't matter. Part of it had to do with the level of technology at the time, but they could have sacrificed a little graphic awesome for a smoother, more playable system.
Ultimately, I just auto-resolved most of the battles and used overwhelming firepower to ensure the AI didn't screw me over.
