Depends on who you ask. Some say it's okay to have herbal tea only, some won't do tea at all of any kind.Bruce_Campbell wrote:I know you guys aren't allowed to drink alcohol or coffee. Is tea allowed?

I've got five, but one of those is only partially-filled with unpainted minis. It's been years since I bought any, though, and even longer since I've painted. And I do have to admit, your painting skills are much better than mine ever were.

Do you purchase special paints for your minis, or do you just get whatever is cheap at the local craft and hobby stores?[/quote]
For minis? eBay. Awesome selection (usually)Chozon1 wrote:Ebay or Craigslist?
Thanks!
I prefer Vallejo paints, which I get from my favorite gaming store. It's expensive but well worth it.

Boris Vallejo used to be one of my favorite fantasy artists, even if much of his stuff runs on the risque side. But I tend to prefer the works of his former student and now wife, Julie Bell. She seems to have such a great use of color to her works!ArcticFox wrote:

Have you seen their stuff? If so, what are your thoughts?

What are your thoughts regarding Games Workshop's "no one but us can sale over the internet" policy?

Oh yes. Not the game... but the book and the movies were truly awesome.mebmatt wrote:Lord of the Rings?
Boris painted so much if you picked up a fantasy novel in the early '80s there was a good chance it was Boris. I didn't know his wife had been his student. That's kinda awesome. I agree some of it's a bit overly... voluptuous... but his influence definitely had a huge impact on the look of fantasy art even now.Sstavix wrote: Boris Vallejo used to be one of my favorite fantasy artists, even if much of his stuff runs on the risque side. My favorite remains Larry Elmore. In fact, I'm wearing a t-shirt with his work on it this very moment.
I think it's idiotic, because it creates resentment in the customer base.Chozon1 wrote:What are your thoughts regarding Games Workshop's "no one but us can sale over the internet" policy?
On the upside, the wording of that rule doesn't absolutely forbid vendors from selling GW products online, it simply lets GW reserve the right to restrict it at their discretion. The reason for that is this: GW prices in Australia/NZ are considerably higher than anywhere else in the world. GW has already moved to restrict online vendors from selling their GW merchandise from one continent to another. In other words, they don't want U.S. vendors selling GW stuff to Australian customers. This had been happening a lot because it was cheaper for an Australian gamer to buy stuff online from the U.S. and have it shipped to them rather than buy it from an Australian vendor. GW can't really force vendors to play that way unless they officially reserve the right to stop letting distributors sell GW stuff online, which they've now done. I suspect that as long as distributors sell only to their region, they'll be unaffected.

Elmore is a great artist, too. Did you know that he is resuming his comic strip Snarf Quest? It's going to run in the Knights of the Dinner Table comic / gaming magazine.ArcticFox wrote:

I know of at least one online shop that's had to close its doors because of the new policy. Which doesn't thrill me. /grump

I wonder if they were doing their business selling at lower prices to the Australia/NZ customers.Chozon1 wrote:I know of at least one online shop that's had to close its doors because of the new policy. Which doesn't thrill me. /grump

It's possible, I 'spose. It was a Canadian company, and the official report was that the (with the update to the policy a few weeks ago) inability to sell GW products across borders or over the internet took away a large enough portion of their business so as to make it unfunctional anymore.ArcticFox wrote:I wonder if they were doing their business selling at lower prices to the Australia/NZ customers.

thewarstore.com gets around it by having all GW orders done by phone. They've been doing that for years.Chozon1 wrote:It's possible, I 'spose. I actually pondered why they didn't do that, but I 'spose they got most of their bidness out of country, as you suggested. They still do battle reports and painting videos and such (as well as their own wargame), so I'm not that grumps...just enough to get on the internet and complain about it, apparently. XD

I haven't seen any evidence to the contrary. Not until something major gets burned or destroyed and wakes people up, which isn't really a good solution.
