Oh man, I love me some freelancer. I was stoked to find out the post-end content. This was my final ship.
At one time, at my request, CCGR hosted a Freelancer server.
I was bummed out when support was dropped, and when I found out all the features Chris Roberts wanted to put it but couldn't. But, Star Citizen, so I'm good.
I am ridiculously stoked for Star Citizen. I straight up have a physical Star Citizen ID card with my name on it. I am for realz.

It does look awesome. I hadn't really looked at it until now.

Sword of the Stars, as most turned based space strategy games, brought inspiration from Master of Orion 2.
Sword is pretty good, but Orion 2 is much better, even though it's considerably older. I love many space 4X strategies out there, like Sins of a Solar Empire, Endless Space, Galactic Civilizations, but I don't know of any that's markedly better then Orion (just about unilaterally on every list, too). The debate, I've seen, is whether you prefer Master of Orion 1 or Master of Orion 2.
Not Master of Orion 3.
3 is terrible.
This all being said, I'm pretty excited for Galactic Civilizations 3.

I've only ever played sword of the stars, and only a couple times because I play it with my youth group (which is really small).

If you like Sword of the Stars, I highly recommend trying out the Master of Orion series, Galactic Civilizations 2, and Endless Space.
Or, you know, wait till they come on sale.
As a note, if you do want to get a Master of Orion game, get it through GOG.com. The wrappers they use (a slick DOSBox wrapper) makes it seamless, and they include a well done IPX virtual tunnel that lets you play it multiplayer seamlessly.
Orion is the best, Endless Space is probably the best modern one and plays a little like an updated Orion, and Gal Civ 2 is a good in between, with a mechanic that's a little more of it's own and a ship design system you can easily get wrapped up in.
I don't know how much expendable cash you have to put towards games, but there it is if you wanted to try out more.

I saw that. I really gotta get a better PC built. I was actually just reinstalling Freelancer.
Ever use the big freighter type ships? That was usually my preference, load one up with turrets and it's nearly a mini frigate.

I've been playing some afte I picked up most of the series on GOG.com. Still holds up as a fun game and all the little sounds and music is just nostalgic glory for me. I love the little details to make it an immersive shooter, and that's what really sells me on it.Chozon1 wrote:Wing Commander?
And like I mentioned, I'm super stoked for Star Citizen and my love of Wing Commander is no small part of it. Too bad Chris Roberts doesn't have the license to make it a Wing Commander game, and have it only stay as a spiritual successor. Doesn't stop him from making little nods (e.g. the trailer for Star Citizen vs. the mission intro videos in Wing Commander).
Occasionally, usually for grabbing breakfast before a little road trip. And when I go, I'm raiding the dollar menu; McDonalds is not something I'd spend much more than a $1 per item.HankTheCowdog wrote:McDonald's?
