The deuce; though for me, it's because I don't care enough to bother getting Uplay working on Ubuntu. I'd have to walk thirty feet to gain access to a Windows compy and...that's just too much effort. >_>

I was actually having this conversation with my brother last night.
Open-world has a problem: interesting density. Some games have these vast, open worlds that are either filled with sparse things to do (MGS V comes to mind), or the stuff you can do is way too repetitive (As much as I love messing around in Just Cause 2, it's missions are so bland and repetitive). So a game should, ideally, have as large a map that they can pack with highly detailed, interesting things to do. As much as I enjoy Bethesda games, I find that there is too much open area with nothing of interest or value in Skyrim and Fallout 3. Maybe that's just me, though.
Cyberpunk 2077 (Which I am super hyped for) may have this problem, and I'm hoping they solve it by making the game set in one dense city with tons to do. If Cyberpunk 2077 can achieve the level of freedom in a GTA city with the core aesthetic of Deus Ex, I'm sold.
So conditionally I'll say yes, as long as the open-world is used with some of the conditions I've described, I'm all for it. I would prefer a small but very detailed and interesting city with lots to do to a vast country with almost nothing to do in between cities.

When I think open world, I think Morrowind. And that's the best Bethesda game I've played, hands down. Problem is, I can't find another game like Morrowind now. So I want people to make one. XD

I always thought the "safety" in the name was more akin to the safety on a firearm. The pin doesn't always protrude, so if it's closed you won't prick yourself picking it up. Likewise, the safety in a firearm is intended to prevent accidentally discharge, it doesn't prevent you from shooting yourself in the foot with it.
