Eh...meh. There's maybe four bands other than SM that look half interesting.
It's a car.

Sure. Since I've seen you listening to some awesome stuff, I'm gonna throw out some in weird niches. If you want a specific subgenre, just let me know.
Korpiklaani
Some pretty decent folk metal for the lighter moods. A lot of good drinking songs.
Alestorm (some swearing)
It's pirate metal. Since I've never heard ninja metal, it's about the best niche metal genre I've heard.
Battlelore
Apart from weird English at times, it's just about the most consistently good LOTR metal out there. If you want, check out Summoning for more, but I won't link to them for reasons of my own.
Theatre of Tragedy
Might be kinda gothy for you, but they had the best English of any band I've ever seen. New stuff sucks, ignore it.
Cynic
Good old fashioned tech death.
Ex Deo (bloody)
Roman mythology death metal.
Also, more Zao.

What are the ethical ramifications of considering the purchase of a car that my Grandma likes?
The aforementioned, Buick Century Custom.

Dunno about ethics, but you'll be laughed at.

So... now that I've got a steady job, I plan on setting aside a little money each pay check for weapons. At the moment, I'm thinking a nice bolt... something. 300 win mag is what I have been wanting for ages... probably the route I'll go.
As to the gun itself... suggestions? Looking around $1000-ish. I was leaning towards a good old Remington 700, but I know there's other stuff out there. Just curious what you like in that price range. Remington? Browning? Winchester? CZ? Kimber (hahahaha)? Weatherby? Not sure.

A CZ550 in .300 Win Mag would be great...too bad there isn't one other than the UHR or a custom, both overpriced.
The Browning A-Bolt's and X-Bolts seem to have a mixed following. I think it's overpriced for what they are, but plenty of people seem to love them.
I've not heard good things about Winchester since the FN takeover. Can't say for sure if any of it's true.
Last I checked, Kimbers are out of the price range new, might be some used ones available. If you can, I'd expect it to be great.
I'd normally vouch for a Tikka, but between near zero parts availability, expensive mags, and such, it's a gamble. FWIW though, I've only heard of a few ever having problems. Sako's are the same, but slighter better, and three times as expensive.
So...I'll call it Weatherby or Remington. If you want something you can modify get a 700 (hint: Accuracy International makes an Arctic Warfare style stock for it), if you just want something good out of the box get the Weatherby Vanguard Sporter.
Personally, I'd go with the Vanguard. The new ones are true Weatherby's. Figured walnut stocks, rosewood tips, adjustable triggers, etc. It might not be a Mark V, but it's a heck of a rifle for $6-700.

Thanks for the suggestions, man. All of those bands you mentioned appealed to me in one way or another. I just need some extra money now. XD
Are there specific albums from those bands you would recommend? Obviously, you don't have to recommend anything for Ex Deo, since they only have one album out so far.

Let's see, I liked Last Alliance and Sword's Song by Battlelore. Doombound is good, but it's a bit slow imo.Strider wrote:Thanks for the suggestions, man. All of those bands you mentioned appealed to me in one way or another. I just need some extra money now. XD

Liked the first two ToT albums, but tbh, Aegis is fine. Everything after that point sucks.
Cynic's Focus was good, haven't heard Traced in the Air enough to call.
The rest...I pull up on youtube when I feel like it.
Also, dunno if you like Becoming the Archetype, but I had a chance to listen to their new album on the plane, and I liked it. ymmv
