You were telling him about Buddha, you were telling him about Mohammed in the same breath. You never mentioned one time the Man who came and died a criminal’s death...

Yeah. Those two scenes messed with my head.
And... I'm finishing up Fellowship of the Ring. Soon I'll probably be starting in on... Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

How the heck can you go from Tolkien to something so juvenile....CountKrazy wrote: And... I'm finishing up Fellowship of the Ring. Soon I'll probably be starting in on... Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

I reread the T'ai Kung's Six Secret Teachings again.
Book is deeper'n most other books on the subject.

I appreciate both. Did I compare them? No, they're on two completely opposite sides of the fantasy spectrum. Just because I read one book and then go on to read a different one doesn't group them together. I don't even think of Lord of the Rings when I read Harry Potter, because they're separate stories. And, though Harry Potter is written for juveniles, it's a matter of taste. Harry Potter may be immature or whatever to you, but for the type of story that it is, I don't think there are many that do it better.Orodrist wrote:How the heck can you go from Tolkien to something so juvenile....CountKrazy wrote: And... And, seriously, Harry Potter is in the realm of writing that appeals to the younger generation, whereas Lord of the Rings is more easily read by the older generation. Some people are more partial to one over the other; some enjoy both just fine. I'm the type that loves both. Am I saying that I read Mr. Mortimer and His Sing-Along Parrot Pals? No. Definite no. XD
So... to all the naysayers (and I mean this totally respectfully)... deal wiff it? >.>

I've read the HP books. Not bad at all, but the final one easily tops 'em all in terms of quality. Just sayin'.
And uh.
Lord of the Rings... very awesome. I don't know if I'd call it "mature" fantasy, exactly. I've talked to many a kid who loves the books... and many an adult. It's just high quality writing, ya know?
Now, I've yet to meet a kid who reads A Song of Ice and Fire... or many adults, for that matter. <_<

I just started reading a book that is full violence, blood, gore, sexual content, lying, deception, and even some occult stuff is in there... and it always seems to offend people. My friends, I reading a book called The Holy Bible. XD

I was just wonderin' how you could read just part of The Lord of the Rings and then go on to another series...CountKrazy wrote:I appreciate both. Did I compare them? I think you're touchy about the HP series, CK. XD That didn't require a full length explanation.
And actually, the farther you get into Harry Potter, the less juvenile it becomes. That was part of the point, as Harry grew, so did the books. I enjoyed them. LOTR is, however, better.

Also, totally agreed with the second bit of your post.
