In addition to The Cardinal of the Kremlin, I'm reading various short stories by Flannery O'Connor.

I finished Gossamer, and it was good, but too short. There were some unanswered questions, and stuff could have been expanded way more. But I guess that's the spirit of Lowry's writings. That said, it was still fairly interesting.

And now I'm a few chapters into The Shack.

Flannery O'Connor! Just discussed her work in Lit class this week. Good times.

Right now, my for-fun reading is an urban fantasy series by Ilona Andrews. I was pleasantly surprised. It is well-written, and gets rid of a lot of genre stereotypes. The tone is sort of serious, but the authors have such a sneaky sense of humor that I've been laughing out loud the whole time.

My dad is obsessed with her. Which is understandable, her work is amazing.

I... started reading the Silmarillion again. Then I misplaced my copy. It's around here somewhere.... maybe I'll start on something else in the meantime.

The Shack....it's boring.

Once he gets there, the story loses all momentum, and quite understandably a sense of reality.

And, the writing style annoys me.

I might be picking this up later and finishing it off, but for now I'm settling with The Nanny Diaries.

Hm...

I read that book a few weeks ago. Didn't find it boring, or momentous.
You're right on about the sense of reality being lost. -_-

I did not have any problems with the writing style. >_>

It was a really good book. I'd probably recommend it to just about anyone.

Okay, I made it sound worse than it really is. The writing does have it's bright spots, but some bits just seem so forced. And once he got to The Shack, it just turned into talking. The whole time. I asked my sister if this is what they do through the rest of the book. And she said yes. -_-

Like I said, I might finish it later, but it's taken third priority on my reading list now.

Three words leaped off the monitor at me. o_O

"Great"

"Violent"

"Dekker"

The latter two, synonymous and almost oxymoronic when combined in a phrase with the word book.
Whereas the former and the latter are basically antonyms of eachother. -_-

...

Helpful Household Hints.

This book helps.
You fall asleep, that is. :|

Its about a killer who breaks young girls bones with a sledgehammer if they don't want to be his daughter.

Still reading The Road. Or was.

After a few certain events, I gotta put the book down for a bit. It was pretty brutal.

Was it the basement scene? With all the people? That bit... was very brutal. o_o
