inspired proto-metal maybe, but to call it any form of metal is blasphemy.

Did I ever call Zeppelin metal? I said they influenced metal, which is what proto-metal bands did. They weren't so much metal bands themselves but they had a lot of the basic characteristics of later metal bands of whom they influenced. Which is what "proto-metal" means. "Helter Skelter" was a prime example. It was the loudest and heaviest song released by a major band at the time. The vocals were on the near-edge of screaming and the heavy-distorted riffs drove the song.

I'm fairly certain some Rolling Stones stuff is heavier than that.

I won't dispute the influence they had on how bands are marketed, but telling me they were the most influential band of all time and influenced all forms of rock?

Who's pretentious now? That does nothing for Beatles fans except make me view them as complete prats, just like the Beatles themselves. I will admit, that's not a good thing to think, but you guys sure don't aid your case.
