I played a good bit of the first on a friends laptop. Loved it. Lovecraftian, almost.

Emph. I beat the first one...it convinced me I didna want to play the second. XD

Not a happy ending. The whole series didn't have a happy ending. You might like though. The mechanics and world were awesome.

Dead Space?

I'd be happy to be proven wrong, but it always seemed to be trying to create fear through gore. Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of dismembering aliens, it just doesn't seem scary at all.

No comment. Though there was one part in Extraction that nailed the freakish factor.
