I haven't really sat down and tried it yet. I noticed a marked increase in speed and such, so I'm planning on giving it a shot at some point.

Know of a good 2D game engine?

Free would be great, of course, but then...

Well....what kind of 2D games do you want to make? If you want to make old-school adventure games such as classic SCUMM stuff, I recommend Adventure Game Studio. A really good free engine is Unity, but it's more 3D-oriented. You can make 2D stuff with it, just a little trickier. If you want a really high-quality 2D engine, Torque 2D isn't bad at all.

Beyond those, I am not well-versed in 2D. I'm more of a 3D guy. :P

Chozon, for a quick easy start in 2D games, try Game Maker. It's the most powerful and flexible free 2d engine I've tried.

So, deep, more of a 3D guy, eh? What sort of tools do you like for 3D game dev?
If you haven't tried it, what do you think you'd like to use?
Unreal SDK? Unity?

Well, there's the full game engines I've tried like Unity and UDK. But UDK is really confusing and Unity has so many quirks to it that I essentially have to learn the programming from the ground up.

My main interest however is in working with OGRE, the object-oriented graphics rendering engine. It's just a renderer, but I really like the power it gives you. my hope is to make a full game with it at some point.

That's a hard question man. XD

Gonna have to go with The Lord of the Rings: the Fellowship of the Ring. Such a good movie.

Actually, I was aiming to make a 2D open world RPG (topdown). Big project (probably bigger than I comprehend), but it's something that I think I could work on in small pieces and actually it'd be easier than an action game. I dunno though. Maybe I'm just a very tired goober. XD

Modding?

It's not the end of the world if you don't finish it, but it would be a dense project. :P

Fun stuff. Made quite a few mods for Star Trek: Elite Force (1 and 2). Can be quite difficult though.

Fellowship, no doubt about it. THat was always my favorite book, and the movie holds a special place in my heart because I saw it in theaters.
