True, though on rare occasions I'd give up an artifact for a group heal when facing beefy casters.

What about melee options?

I'm not sure if I remember, honestly. Part of me thinks I've switched off, but I know I've used the avenger a good number of times. The double hit was a big draw for me.

I usually go with the Pegasus Knight. Has the best survivability early game, and with flying, it gives me a good head start.

I meant the lord you pick at the beginning, not the leader you use. But that's an interesting point too :)

Warrior lord (bonus regen)
Guildmaster (bonus... not much!)
Wizard (double spellcasting, cheap research)
