Would it still be the "global" economy if we had the technology to colonize other worlds?
And also related to your statement, would you ever serve aboard the mining ship Red Dwarf if given the option?
It's not an interplanetary economy yet! I think I'll just hang on Earth.

Franchises which meet both stipulations?

For my question, a couple examples come to mind. One would be the Halloween movie series, where the third movie doesn't feature Michael Myers (never seen it, just heard about it). A more recent example might end up being Guardians of the Galaxy, which - from what I've heard - is supposed to tie in with Avengers somehow....
As for games that have nothing to do with the content, how about Braid? Other than a couple of passing references in the narrative, it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the game itself....

How could you skip my question? :O It was the progenitor of the two that followed.
That's like playing Call of Duty or Halo, but not playing Doom.
...nevermind, I understand.

To answer Emwok's question, I don't think Fez has anything to do with a fez outside of wearing one. And as far as unrelated sequels go, the Evil Dead series is an excellent example. It went from gritty, gory zombie movie to satirical, over the top zombie movie.

Fitting them within the bounds of your jaws is a fantastic way to break them.
