I can agree with you there. It had a mix of "monster closet" and "bullet sponge" malfunctions. And there is no question that Uncharted 2 and 3 were better experiences overall, but given the choice between running away from a superhuman general and shooting explosive goo (even on crushing, the greatest difficulty would come from a control malfunction paired with a grenade, not from combat itself) or a firefight with mediocre construction but a satisfying end, I'd pick the second option.
Or get Uncharted 3 which blows both out of the water...
