I can agree with you there. It had a mix of "monster closet" and "bullet sponge" malfunctions. And there is no question that Uncharted 2 and 3 were better experiences overall, but given the choice between running away from a superhuman general and shooting explosive goo (even on crushing, the greatest difficulty would come from a control malfunction paired with a grenade, not from combat itself) or a firefight with mediocre construction but a satisfying end, I'd pick the second option.

Or get Uncharted 3 which blows both out of the water...

Imagine if they had Jak and Daxter or Rachet and Clank as special guests.

I'm pretty sure someone would get shot.

Why waste the bullet(s)? They'd probably just beat them to death with a PlayStation Move controller.
