Those are kinda mean. Exactly the kind a young lad should give to a teacher though.

I see.

45-70?

I dunno if I'd really have a place for one. No doubt it's effective, but modern ballistics have gone waaay past the old cartridge.

This is true, but nothing like a good old 45-70 cowboy gun in my mind. That would just be fun. o.o

Cheapest bolt-action rifles out there that are still well made? As in not crap. Excluding milsurp. <_<

I hear the Savage Edge is good for around $300 in good few chamberings. But it's plastic.

The Weatherby Vanguard starts at around $400, again, synthetic, but higher grade than the Savage. Up at around $500, there are a few wooden stocked Vanguard, and also the Tikka T3's.

Hmm, I've never looked into the Weatherby rifles. I suppose I should... just haven't.

*googles them*

And I don't mind synthetic as long as it's decent plastic. Nice thing about it is I'm far less concerned about dinging it up/scratching it when out in the woods as I would be a nice expensive wood stock.

You heard much about these Vanguards? As in shooting performance, jamming, etc.?

Well, they're built by Howa, which is another company to look at come to think of it.

I hear the action's smooth, and the company has a MOA accuracy guarantee. It's generally seen as one of the better value pieces available.

Well, I think you've sold me on 'em. I've been looking for a bolt around that price range, and like what I'm reading.

How about these Tikka T3's? I can't get on their website. -_-

Tikka's seem to be more or less the same deal but pricier but with more caliber choices.

Ah.

Would you go with a smaller cartridge like a 30-06/.270 etc. or go with something bigger, like a .300 Win Mag/WSM or 7mm Rem Mag if you were me going for a next gun?

Also, can you find a list of all the calibers the Vanguard comes in? I... can't. Or rather, the computer won't let me. >_<

Honestly, here in FL anything more than a .30-06 is overkill.

It's .223, .22-250, .243, .25-06, .270 Win, 7mm-08, .308, .257 Wby. Mag, .270 WSM, 7mm Rem Mag, .300 Win Mag, .300 WSM, .300 Wby. Mag, and .338 Win Mag.

Go with the .300 Weatherby <_<

lol

Yeah, due to the significance cost difference between the 30-06 ammo and bigger... I think I'd go with an '06. XD

Next gun you wanna purchase?

Not sure.

Been considering the Vanguards myself. Don't really need a hunting rifle, so I'd probably go with something like .22-250 so I can get some bragging groups.
