Punisher: War Zone
Shockingly violent in the manner that some bad guys get killed...but that's what makes it great.

Quantum of Solace
I still enjoyed it after the third viewing. The airplane chase remains remarkably stupid (some crappy old World War II antique isn't going to outmaneuver a modern, smaller, far more agile plane...sorry...not gonna happen), and I hate that they decided that the computers at MI6 have to look like something from 20 years into the future. But these are small complaints, and I remain impressed at how well they were able to to tie together all the strings from Casino Royale. And, of course, no one has ever played the character of Bond better than Daniel Craig. No one.

Zak, you and I need to have a Bond movie night.
Because the only ones I've ever seen are the Pierce Brosnan ones. o_o

I mean... I've far from seen all of the Bond movies and tend to agree with Zak about Craig... but Brosnan wasn't exactly a good representation of Bond. Nor was Timothy Dalton. *cough* Or George Lazenby. *cough* *cough*

You were telling him about Buddha, you were telling him about Mohammed in the same breath. You never mentioned one time the Man who came and died a criminal’s death...

Campy fun. I like how they stop every 5 minutes to explain the whole movie. "The Red Queen is this." "The hive is this." "The black guy dies 4th."

Agreed. Because...you are seriously missing out on Casino Royale. It's not just the best Bond movie. It's a fantastic film in and of itself.CountKrazy wrote:Zak, you and I need to have a Bond movie night.

Let the Right One In
Swedish vampire movie... and ultimately an amazing film. It's much like Pan's Labyrinth in its mixture of horror with wonder, and manages to come off almost as a fairy tale in some ways. That said, it's beautifully filmed, acted and shot, with a wonderful pacing that you don't see much in mainstream American cinema. See it if you can, but heed the R-rating. The movie is gory.

I've wanted to see that for ages. I might rent it from Blockbuster soon, if they have it.

Part of Rest Stop.
So terrible, I turned it off. And I hardly ever turn off movies. But it's like this: if there's gotta be gore in a movie, then the movie has to have some substance to it. And this was just awful. I didn't even get to the "scary" part. Oh no, the lovers almost get run off the road by a crazy dude in a truck! Oh no, the girl has to go to the bathroom, but she won't go on the side of the road, so they stop at a rest stop (hence the title... see what they did there?)! Oh NO, she goes to the bathroom and there's like all this horrible crap written on the walls, the toilet seat is missing and there's rats! OH NO! She comes out of the bathroom and the guy is gone! With the car!! But there's a trailer and no one's opening the door!!! There's a park ranger station with no park ranger!!!! THIS IS THE BEST SET UP EVER!!!!1 Cue small external monologue, she's walking on the side of the road, and WATCH OUT FOR THE TRUCK which almost hits her and there's a cell phone (HER BOYFRIEND'S CELL PHONE! IS HE ALIVE? DEAD? WHO KNOWS?) and it's, it's, it's, it's her boyfriend's phone! And there's blood on it! And there's a bunch of needless cursing and threats to a guy who's running off plus connections to the writing on the bathroom stall's wall!

That's the first half hour. I turned it off five minutes later.

Pan's Labyrinth
Freaking finally. It... wasn't what I expected. That's not to say it wasn't awesome, because it most certainly was. The acting, surprisingly, was excellent (for the most part), and Guillermo del Toro nailed the setting and characters. It was an entirely unique and original movie, despite lacking a very fresh story (on the fantasy side of things, at least; the "reality story" was something I've never seen mixed with fantasy before, so I really liked that bit).
Biggest problem I had with the movie... Just about every character lacked common sense. Simple little things that would've made everything craptons easier for everybody. o_o "Oh, my hand is right on the chalk, and I could easily not leave it on the table so that the bad guy doesn't see it and suspect my presence, but I'm not going to, just because that's how I roll." Bah.
All in all... I did love it. Just could've made the characters a little bit smarter. o_o
