You guys are making me feel like a buzzkill. :) Maybe we can bring up Mormon doctrine someday on the spiritual forum. I'm wondering how many Mormons are on the forum (does anyone have an idea?). I wouldn't want to single you out there against an onslaught of anti-Mormonism. That certainly wouldn't be productive for anyone.

Chozon1 wrote: Nice. XD That'd be win. But I'm planning on doing a custom chapter, otherwise I'd be sorely tempted...I like the heraldry and the 'Fist of Dorn' thunder hammer though. They look like they're painted solid gold. I'm not really set on anything though. I may need to cheat a bit and buy the rulebook (when it comes out) and play a few games with cardboard or army men with a friend to see what I like best. Or go to GW and see if someone will either let me watch or play with them.

'Honor Guard Squad' is what I was trying to remember from earlier. Have you any thoughts?
No doubt you'd find people at GW who'd help you out with a beginner game. In fact, as far as I know all GWs have a set of models and a table just for that purpose. They'll give you a free demo so you can get a feel.

There's no Honor Guard Squad for the Black Templars so I have no personal experience with them. I think the closest equivalent I have is a bodyguard that accompanies the High Marshall of the Black Templars and they come with him, but I'd have to double check.

As far as I know I'm the only one here. Don't worry about singling me out, it's not like the topic has never come up, and it's not like my sig doesn't make it obvious to anyone who didn't know already. For the most part I don't get much grief here, and even if I did... Meh.

How long have I been saying I need to get to GW? XD Birthday is coming up though.

Honor Guards are around 35 points apiece, but they've got Artificer armor and relic weapons. Seems expensive pointwise to me, but they do smell pretty powerful.

Why the devil are Whirlwinds and Predators so cheap (pointswise)? O_o They seem awesome.

35 points for a single model is expensive, so only take them if you have a specific task for them on the field. Packing a bunch of them around a Chapter Master can be a real death star unit, but it's also going to attract a LOT of attention from enemy models with big guns.

Whirlwinds and Predators are cheap because, being built on a Rhino chassis, they're relatively easy to destroy. IIRC the armor value for the front and sides is 11 or 12, which means to penetrate the armor anything from a plasma gun on up can do it, with meltas being an almost guaranteed penetrating hit...

...and that's exactly the purpose of my melta-toting bike squad... To rip across the field and pop tanks.

Hmm...tricky then. Not sure I like the idea of 1/4 of the points in my army getting wiped out by one really bad set of rolls. XD

I think Predators have front armor of 13. Whirlwinds are 11, though I'm more interested in the 48'' firing range. Do you think it'd be mroe effective if it was behind a rock or boulder or somewhat? Because...I very much like the idea of being able to shell my opponent all the way across the table. >_>

Your biker strategy sounds devious and, from the perspective of the opponent, painfully hard to take. XD

Yeah you can do that. If a vehicle's hull is at least 50% covered by some kind of intervening terrain or other vehicles, it gets a cover save.

Nice. XD I expect to lose badleh, with little Spess Mahrine bodies and tears all over the table.

What else about my first game?

It's okay to have a bunch of dead marines, as long as all the bullet holes in the armor are in the FRONT, not the BACK.

(That was a big deal in a novel I once read about the Black Templars. Being killed in battle was okay as long as all the battle damage to your armor was in the front. Having damage to the BACK of your armor was a bad thing, because implies you were running away when they gunned you down.)

Nice. XD I actually like that. I will hold nothing back.

I did think of something else though: apothecaries. They has feel no pain. I want the feel no pain rule for my squads, but I don't think I can have it with Ultramarines since it seems apothecaries are the only ones that can give it to squads, and apothecaries can only be places in command squads. Am I correct in this? :|

Because...I want FNP. XD

It looks like you are indeed correct. I also looked it up in the Black Templars book and the Errata makes it the same, but before that it allowed the unit to ignore any one unsaved wound outright... no roll needed. (The Feel No Pain rule didn't exist when that codex came out) but alas, we are now equal in this 8)

Feel No Pain is a very handy rule, and as expensive as a Command squad is, I'm glad they have that mechanism for keeping those points on the table longer.

LAAAAAAAME. I think the Blood Angels can have FNP in any squad with a chaplain, sanguinary priest or sommat. -_- I was hoping it was the same for Ultramarines.

What are some of your favorite, or most used, Black Templar units?
