ArcticFox wrote:Started to, once... But the problem is that on a wargaming table you have to balance realism vs. utility. I almost got one of those Games Workshop contoured terrain sets that look AWESOME, but the slope of the land and some of the terrain features make it hard sometimes to get miniatures to stand upright on them, and Warhammer Fantasy units, with their formations and movement trays, are downright impossible in certain places on the table. The best wargaming tables have flat surfaces as much as possible, with hills built in flat levels so models can stand on them easily. Games Workshop also sells a cool forest piece with removable trees, but the surface is textured like a forest floor and sometimes models won't stand up on that right, either. I built my own using sheets of polystyrene plastic, with model railroad trees glued to them. The tree base and the trunk are separate so I can pull the trees off to make room as a unit moves through the forest, and the space between the trees is nice and flat so models can stand on it easily. A little spray paint and it's good to go.
Niiiice. ^_^ If I needed one, I was going to follow your method of making my own with stuff from a hobby supply store. Part of me, though, wants to spend a month or so building one using Elmer's glue, playsand, and about $50 worth of various modeling grass, trees, that fake water stuff, paint, and styrofoam cut into buildings. XD

It sounds to me like there wasn't quite enough instruction given about stuff like design documents ahead of time.
The program itself seems pretty simple, since it doesn't look like he's grading on efficiency. (In other words, you could use arrays to perform that task, which would be ridiculously inefficient... Or you could use linked lists, which would be better, or you could use binary trees, which would be best... but those issues don't seem to be very important in the grading.) But I recognize that it's my experience saying it seems simple, not the project itself. It looks to me like he's trying to focus you on how you conceptualize and implement individual data objects and store them in a way that makes them retrievable later. (So they can be read or modified on the fly.)
Having said that, I do think 2 weeks is pretty scary for a low level course, especially if it isn't the only course you're taking at the moment. I don't blame you for complaining
I had a project a little like that in C++ when I was in school... it wasn't as complex as yours, but I remember having similar feelings. "We have to weeks to do THIS?!?!?!? He's out of his %(#%!@( mind!"

You don't need to look over your shoulder. When the Templars come for you, they come at you RIGHT IN YOUR FACE RAAAAAAGGGHHH!!!!

If I can find it I'll share with you a picture of a time when my Bretonnian Knights came charging up to my friend's Dwarves. I got 4 hits and all I needed to kill them was to roll a 2+ on each of the dice. I rolled 4 '1's. It was so awesome I took a picture.

There's something to be said for that. You don't have power weapons do you?

Some do
My favorite close combat weapon in the game is the Lightning Claw. I just ordered a pair of them for one of the marines in my new Thousand Sons army. (My Black Templars have 2 marines thus armed, and I just acquired 5 more Terminators with paired lightning claws in a trade with my friend.) A pair of Lightning Claws gives the following face-ripping goodness:
+1 Attack in Close Combat (Because of paired weapons.)
Re-roll failed rolls to wound.
And when my BTs are stirred to righteous anger, they get to re-roll failed hits, too.
Ahhhhh Lightning Claws. I can never quit you.

Oh yes, I have a Black Templar Bike Squad with 3 Bikes and one Upgraded one with the sidecar. ALL of them have Meltaguns. (Well the big one has a Multi-Melta. No, regular Space Marine chapters can't do this.

)

Where did you get the idea that they were that heavy?

I'd always pictured the plates as rather small. Not that I'm even in this conversation.
I haven't decided it I want to give bikes a try. I'm really leaning towards a heavy hitting defensive army as opposed to a speedy one. But that may be my newbishness talking.
Those chapter guardians dudes that can be brought in with chapter masters (my codex is elsewhere, at the moment, and I don't know what they're called)?

Even if the plates where small they where still pure gold so at least all of them together would be 300-400lbs

Hehe it should be interesting.

A defensive oriented army can just fine. In fact, there's even fluff supporting it. The Imperial Fists chapter specialize in fortifications and defense. During the Horus Heresy, they were the Legion charged with the defense of the Imperial Palace on Terra. Maybe you should make your marines Imperial Fists!
..and if you do that, we'd be brothers... 'cause guess which Legion is the one the Black Templars derived from?

I think you have a WAY overinflated idea of what the plates are, and how big.
"Each plate was six inches wide and eight inches long, and not quite so thick as common tin. They were...bound together in a volume, as the leaves of a book, with three rings running through the whole. The volume was something near six inches in thickness."
-Joseph Smith

I guess. Virgil Goode turned out to be a disappointment.

Hey, ArticFox. This has been a lighthearted thread, but I was wondering if you'd be willing to discuss Mormon doctrine. I would be honored to be enlightened by your intelligence on the matter, but if you feel like its a bad idea, then that's fine as well. Let me know!

I have no problem discussing it, but if it's to be more than just a Q&A this thread may not be the best place. Maybe in the General Discussion or Spiritual Matters section.

Nice. XD That'd be win. But I'm planning on doing a custom chapter, otherwise I'd be sorely tempted...I like the heraldry and the 'Fist of Dorn' thunder hammer though. They look like they're painted solid gold. I'm not really set on anything though. I may need to cheat a bit and buy the rulebook (when it comes out) and play a few games with cardboard or army men with a friend to see what I like best. Or go to GW and see if someone will either let me watch or play with them.
'Honor Guard Squad' is what I was trying to remember from earlier. Have you any thoughts?
