Like one more than the other, or will both give me a razor sharp edge?

I like the three stones on the first... but the second is more compact, and I've heard that diamond sharpening stones are hard to beat.

Dunno though, wanted to see what you thought.
Both will work, though to get razor sharp you'd need a strop. I'd go with the larger tri hone.
Ah, Okay.

Where would you go for a strop? Amazon has a few but they're... kinda expensive.

Do you use water/oil when sharpening normally? I've heard pros and cons to dry and wet sharpening.

Well with a natural stone you'll want oil or water. Synthetics work best dry.

Strops...are just expensive, I find. I think Ben's Backwoods had some reasonable ones.

Hmm, gotcha. I'm thinking of picking up that tri-tone... and giving every blade in the house (especially my mom's kitchen--dull--knives) a sharpen.

In your experience, how often have you had to sharpen your VG-10 blade(s)?

Not often, depending on use of course.

Ah.

Top five bowie knives? Purely opinion based of course... but a bowie would be handy in the woods, especially around here.

Top five?

Honestly, I can only name two, those being the Ontario Marine Raider and the BRKT VPB.

I'd prefer a stout hatchet or machete.

Yeah, hatchets/machetes are quite useful. Main thing I like about the bowie is how they don't really stick out too much on one's belt... but in all honesty neither do the other tools.

What do you think of:

?

That looks good, actually. Forgot Ka Bar/Becker made bowies, I'd assume they'd all be good, since they're carbon steel from a company from which good quality control can be expected.

Yeah, I've heard good things about Ka Bar. Never owned something by them, though.

Deadwood?
