Interesting...I actually like The Orks or the Tyranids, but there's something about Space Marines I can't seem to move away from. I just think they're kewl.

But I didna really want a shooty army so much.
Hmm...what are your thoughts on the Chaos forces?

I actually had the beginnings of a Chaos Space Marine army. They were the Thousand Sons Legion, the "mages" of the Space Marines. My army concept was the Legion as it existed back when they were still loyal to the Imperium, so I was doing conversions to represent them in the old style armor and their original colors. I sold them off to help pay for a Christmas present for my wife.
They're ok, but the Codex is a bit dated and inflexible. Rumor has it that a new Chaos Space Marine Codex is coming soon.

Good reason for selling. Also epic idea for a paint job. Something sad about it, I 'spose.
Any idea when the 6th edition rulebook is supposed to come out?

It is a little sad in that epic story sort of way... I was reading the novels telling the story of how and why they fell to chaos, and for being bubblegum sci-fi, they were pretty good and surprisingly deep. The Thousand Sons had noble and honest intentions, but...
6th Edition should be out in June or July, along with a new box set.

Mmm...interesting. Here's hoping for early June. XD Before my birthday, greedy as that may be.

I like them in my assault squad, because it allows me to deep strike (Where you keep the unit in reserve, and drop it into the table somewhere in the middle of the game... preferably in your opponent's face!)

I saw some dude deep strike a Landraider once...He took a lot of flack for it in Youtubian commentaries, but it actually seemed to work alright, even if it did scatter a few inches off course. He still pasted the other guy (who was playing Grey Knights).
Is it just me, or are the Necrons a tad unfair in their abilities? I've heard a Necron player claim that they had weaknesses, but...I then watched the opposing player empty several troops shots/assaults and after killing about five of them, they stood back up. @_@
He lost the match, but still. I watch that channel frequently and that's the one time I saw him play Necrons and lose.

Necrons are still the most recently updated army so people are still getting the hang of how to play against them. Once people get used to them, they'll come down.
Like that deep striking Land Raider... That's a Blood Angels thing, and when they first came out it was the same deal.

It's not so much I consider them overpowered, just question the fairness of the reanimation protocol. Yesterday, I watched a Tyranid flamey thing wipe out 8 of 10 Necrons and 6 stood back up. XD I felt that one.
Though I guess in the most technical sense the whole 'feel no pain' thing is similar, since it offers another chance. Hmm...
So I ordered a Space Marine codex (used, so it was fairly cheap. I was actually pretty hyped to find the current codex that cheap). Your thoughts?

Good call. Space Marines is probably the best army for new players to start with. It's plenty flexible, has plenty of play-ability, and still works well even when you don't have a bunch of tricks up your sleeve yet.
I hope you ordered the most recent version of the 'dex...

Should be...It's the one printed in '08 and the same one listed on GW's website. I'll have to see though. If it isn't, I'ma be bummed. XD
Thunder hammers or chain swords?

If the cover is the same as the one on the site, you should be fine.
Thunder Hammers. Totally. Especially in the Space Marine console game... oh, how I love that weapon.
In game terms, chainswords have *no* special rules at all. They're just as effective as bare hands. On the other hand, a Thunder Hammer can crack open a vehicle, insta-kill a Space Marine, stun an enemy.... oh... how I love them...

Hmm...why would you use a chainsword then? Is there a rule I'ma learn when my Codex get's here, or is it just because the idea of a chainsword is epic? XD

In earlier versions of the game, chainswords had special rules associated with them. At one point that changed, as they tried to simplify the rules by reducing the number of special rules associated with particular special weapons. The chainsword stuck around because it's the iconic, epic Space Marine close combat weapon.
Who knows, in 6th Edition maybe they'll regain some of their awesome...
