Yeaaaahhhhhh get used to him.Deepfreeze32 wrote:Finally got around to starting Heretics of Dune. About halfway through, and Miles Teg is one of the more interesting characters in the series so far. The whole "no-room/no-globe/no-ship" thing is pretty cool too.
Is Duncan Idaho like the only character to be in every Dune book (Well, as a Ghola, but still)? Because they just keep bringing him back again and again.

I was kind of hoping for a boy unicorn...Their manes are made of magical fire. It's just a bit more impressive when you're riding into combat.

Tom Bombadil is a character from the Lord of the Rings. He didn't make it into the movies but some of his lines were given to Treebeard. He encountered the Hobbits shortly after they left Hobbiton and before they'd met Aragorn. They were being attacked by barrow wights and Tom rescued them.

And TBH, I'm glad he was cut. He's not really brought up again in any meaningful way, he feels kind of forced anyway, and he's just weird, man.ArcticFox wrote:Tom Bombadil is a character from the Lord of the Rings. I finished Heretics of Dune. I really enjoyed it. But before I start Chapterhouse: Dune, I plan to read some other things. Which is why I ask:
Have you read anything by Neal Stephenson? I'm flirting with the idea of reading The Diamond Age or Cryptonomicon, but I've also been putting off The Wheel of Time for far too long too...

I don't think I've ever read anything by Neal Stephenson... I did just finish the Wheel of Time last month though... that's a LONG commitment.

Well, I knew that. I guess I should have said...who is Tom Bombadil? A fictional character created by Tolkien? A representation of nature? Kevin Sorbo?
In the book, he say's mysterious things like "Who am I? If you knew my name, you would know."
Paradise Lost?

Ahhh ok. I always thought of Bombadil as being a sort of representation of the ideal relationship between man and nature. As if he's ten steps ahead of everyone else, having learned to live harmoniously with nature and natural beings with no conflict.Chozon1 wrote:Well, I knew that. I haven't read Paradise Lost yet. I should go download it from librivox now...

He's also older than the Eldar, and the ring has no power over him. The whole Ancient Forest chapter is boring, and I usually skip it, but I found myself fascinated by Bombadil this time through.

You mean like Magic, where you build your deck first then play? Or like Dominion, where deck building is part of gameplay?
I kinda like both but I'm not hardcore into either.

Dominion, I suppose. I bought a copy of LOTR: Return of the King Deck building game (which is actually the name...it's so long), and I'm finding that I really enjoy the genre. I think I could get addicted, if I'm not careful.

Cooperative. Cuts way down on the ego factor.

Do you own both MCPE and MCPC versions, one or the other, or neither?
Peace!
