Only time I've broken a mechanical keyboard is when I poured milk on it.
I've actually got one sitting beside my desk at the moment, but the lappy doesn't have a PS/2 port.
Hmm...wonder if I can build a USB to PS/2...
Finally bought a mechanical keyboard!

You can buy a PS/2 to USB adapter for peanuts. I am using one at work.
I prefer Browns over Blues because of the lighter touch, since finger/hand/wrist pain is a big deal to me. But Blues are indeed great, and I use them on my Orbweaver without complaints. I doubt you can go wrong with either. I will say that if keystroke volume (noise) level is an issue, then don't get Blues. You may not realize how much you miss quiet keys until they are gone. Voice chatting/phone calls can be annoying for example.

This is the keyboard I have. I have had it for a year or so and haven't had any issues with it. I use it to type things and play video games. It is a really great keyboard.

Chiclet keyboards aren't bad, I almost went that route before I went mechanical. I'm glad I went the mech route, though.

I mean, I mostly do a poop-ton of writing for school, so part of deal is I drive myself and my parents nuts with the jibberjabber of constant typing on a mechanical

Loudness is one of the reasons why I got a Logitech G710+ - it's mechanical MX Brown (tactile + quiet) and it has O-rings on each key, so it doesn't *clack* as loud when it hits bottom. It's really not all that loud, and it's still full of tactile goodness.
