Christ Centered Gamer

We have seen most of Lost and Battlestar Galactica - we just need to watch the last season of both those series. For some reason, though, my wife hasn't been too keen on picking up where we left off, though. I wonder if she doesn't remember what was happening, and doesn't want to start over from the beginning....

As for genre, we have pretty eclectic tastes. A good mystery - especially if it's mixed with a touch of comedy - can be a hit. We used to be big Law & Order fans (they started to get a little dark in the later seasons, though...). We like Psych (just recently updated!), the Cadfael mysteries (own those on DVD, but they're on Netflix, too. If you like whodunit mysteries with a medieval flair - AND a surprising amount of historical accuracy - you will enjoy these, too), Lie to Me, Monk... that sort of thing.

My wife's been on a bit of a sci-fi kick, too. We've always been big fans of the Stargate series (own those on DVD, too), as well as Doctor Who and Red Dwarf. We're not terribly fond of those sci-fi that tend to lean more toward the horror side of things.

We like fantasy and high fantasy as well, but find it hard to find a good series. We enjoyed the first season of "Legend of the Seeker," but it went downhill from there. I've been thinking about "Game of Thrones," but I'm hesitant since I hated the first book....

Reality shows? Except for Project Runway (for some weird reason) we'll pass.

Sitcoms? Our choices tend to be extremely sparse. Cheers and Frasier are in our queue. So we tend to be more into cerebral humor rather than slapstick (more "Blackadder" than "Simpsons," as it were).

Anime? I've got a few series in there for me, but my wife isn't fond of them.

I'll have to give White Collar a look (if it's on Netflix). I'll have to see if Babylon 5 and the others suggested are there, too.

Thanks for the suggestions (and any others you might be able to come up with)! It'll give us a few more options to consider, at least!

I think White Collar is still on netflix... My dad and I watched the first 12 or so episodes in a day or two a while back lol.

I'm not sure if they're on there but Wilfred and It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia are excellent comedies. They're pretty dark though as is Sons of Anarchy so you might not be into that. You mentioned it in your last post that you were thinking about game of thrones. I sorta recommend it. Sorta because while it's a really well made show, It's got a nearly pornographic amount of nudity. So yeah, be ready if you watch it.

Kappa Mikey is my next suggestion.

If you're into it, I'd recommend both Raising Hope and My Name is Earl, two pretty funny shows with the same creator and a lot of the same themes, but totally different. They're not squeaky clean, but I'd consider them far above most sitcom fare. And no laugh tracks.

Though it's a short series and ends on an underwhelming note (Kinda like a certain other show that was in the original post ), I really liked Terra Nova.

If you like drama and don't mind a soap opera-esque feel, I hear Downton Abbey is pretty great.


I second Sherlock and Heroes (Especially season 1), and would also recommend Caprica (Set in the Reimagined Battlestar Galactica universe, and a sort-of prequel). Though with Caprica, I recommend avoiding the individual, not-edited pilot episode (Has some nudity in it. This content is not in the season release, or what I believe is on Netflix).

If you like British shows, and like the idea of a semi-modern spy show, I recommend Spooks (Might be on Netflix as MI-5, it's American broadcast name). It's interesting so far (Almost done with season 1). Not kiddie-friendly, but not necessarily for visible, on-screen content so much as themes addressed in the show (Terrorism, relationships, work politics, war, international relations, etc).



I also don't have Netflix, so I apologize if my suggestions aren't readily available there.

I used to watch "My Name is Earl" back when we had TV reception. That show is pretty good! I'll have to see if it's on there.

My wife's a big fan of Downton Abbey, but it's not really my cuppa tea, gov'ner.

We just finished watching the first season of "Once Upon a Time" on Netflix - now there's an interesting program! A surprising, pleasant mix of retold classic fairy tales combined with modern-day drama. Can't wait for Season 2 to show up. Right now we're working through a different British programme called "Doc Martin." It's about a surgeon who moves to a small seaside town to run a practice there because he's suddenly developed hemophobia. It's pretty good!

Sherlock is in our Instant Queue, but we haven't started on that one yet. We probably should soon....

All four seasons of My Name is Earl (and the first two of Raising Hope) are on there, otherwise I'd have no way of watching them. I've heard it gets not so great in the third and fourth seasons though.
