II. The Jerusalem Council (15:1–35)

A) 1.That unless they were circumcised, the gentiles could not be saved.
2. They told churches in Phoenicia and Samaria that gentiles had been converted.

B) 1. That he had received a commission to preach to the gentiles as well, and that they too had received the Holy Spirit.
2. Gentiles were saved through the grace of Jesus our Lord; Jews too.

C) 1. They became silent and listened.
2. Miraculous signs and wonders among the gentiles.

D) 1. He quoted a verse from Amos, and saying they shouldn't make it difficult for gentiles to turn from evil.
2. I'd imagine it was the reading at the synagogue, but also the way the Jews lived.

E) 1. They sent Paul and Barnabas since they were approved apostles, or preachers of God. Judas and Silas went with them to confirm by word of mouth the letter.
2. That the people messing with them were not church approved and certified, and that the only requirements they saw fit to put on them were to avoid food sacrificed to idols, blood, meat of strangled animals and sexual immorality.

F) 1.They were glad for its encouraging message.
2. They said much to encourage and strengthen the brothers.

II. The Jerusalem Counsel

A. Debate over Gentiles Keeping the Law
1. That circumcision was essential for salvation
2. they passed through Phenice and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren.

B. Peter Preaches One Plan of Salvation for All
1. that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.
2. giving them the Holy Ghost, even as [he did] unto us; (just like the jews)

C. Paul and Barnabus Testify
1. they had held their peace
2. miracles and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles by them.

D. James Proves Gentiles Are Free from the Law
1. He pointed out that the Gentiles are indeed turning to and believing in God
2. being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.

E. The Apostles and Elders Send a Letter
1. They were chosen, Judas and Silas
2. Basically that these guys we're sending should clear up the bad teachings they've been dealing with

F. Report to Antioch
1. when they had read, they rejoiced for the consolation.
2. And Judas and Silas, being prophets also themselves, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed [them]

IV. Paul's Third Missionary Journey

A.
1. Ephesis, Corinth, Philipi, Thesolanica, tarsus, Antioch
2. Turkey

B.
1. an eloquent man, [and] mighty in the scriptures, the apostles perfected his teachings
2. It wasn't Christ focused
3. tried to exercise demons using Christ's name alone without faith

5. this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands:
6. the apostles were rounded up there and let go

2. They didn't want him to go to Jerusalem knowing that he would die there. Paul didn't want to be dissuaded.

Paul's Second Missionary Journey.

A) 1. Mark had basically abandoned them both earlier (I don't think the reason is ever stated). I'm not sure either of them were right; I'm pretty sure, hard as it is, Christians should never fight to the point of splitting apart. Not knowing any of the facts, I've always thought Paul could've been more forgiving. :\ But again, I know nothing more than 'Mark had deserted them and had not continued in the work.
2. It ended with Paul and Barnabas splitting up. Barnabas left by ship and sailed to Cyprus. Paul was commended by the brothers of the church and left with Silas; I imagine they were still mad at each other.

B) 1. Timothy had spiritual influences on him from several generations, was strong in the faith, and a loyal and faithful worker. He was also liked by people.
2. So he would not offend the Jews.'

C) 1. A man of Macedonia.
2. That God had called them to preach the gospel to them.

D) 1. It allowed Paul and Silas to preach their 'easily', for one thing.
2. Outside the city gate at the river. Lydia was from Thyatira.
3. The owner of the slave girl falsely accused them of subverting the Roman government.
4. The earthquake releasing the prisoners was impressive, but I think it was the fact that Paul, Silas and the rest of them stayed where they were. That showed they trusted God (at least in the case of Paul and Silas) with their very lives.
5. Because the rulers of the city has treated them unjustly.

E) 1. That the Christ had to suffer and rise from the dead.
2. The Jews got jealous because of all the people believing in Jesus.

F) 1. Of more noble character than the Thessalonians; they eagerly received the message, and searched the scriptures daily to see if what Paul said was true.
2. The Jews from Thessalonica; the sent Paul to the coast with an escort.

G) 1. Because of all the idols there.
2. To me, a nightmare of boredom and woe; it was the place where people went to meet, to talk about and debate the latest ideas.
3. Paul was basically telling the Athenians that their unknown God, was the real God, the creator and author of life and time. His main points were that God was real, and spirit, not just a statue. That he had created all men from all times and places, and put them exactly where he wanted them. And that there was a call to them to turn their lives over to Him.
4. Some sneered, but others believed.

H) 1. Tent makers named Priscilla and Aquila.
2. Positively; many Corinthians believed and were Baptised.
3. Jesus spoke to him, and told him not to be afraid, because He was with him, and had many people in that city.
4. That he wasn't going to prosecute him, since he had committed no crime.

As a side note, I've always found it funny that Sosthenes--who did nothing-, and could do nothing-got tossed a beating.

I) 1. Because of a vow he had taken.
2. Syria, Cenchrea, Ephesus, and Ceasarea. 'Least, that's all he visited before he hit Antioch.

Paul's third Missionary Journey.

A) 1. Iconium, Lystra, Derbe and Pisidium Antioch? I call complaint; had to use the map in the back of the bible to find out.

2. Somewhere next to Galatia.

B) 1. That he was a Jew born in Alexandria. He was learned, with a 'thorough' knowledge of the scriptures, who had been accurately instructed in the ways of the Lord, and spoke boldly and accurately about Jesus, but only knew of John's baptism.

2. Reading this, they may have just been John's disciples, instead of disciples of Christ. If that's the case, their baptism was not a symbol of belief in Jesus (and/or, our deaths to sin) but just a symbol of repentance. So Paul baptized them into Christ.

3. They tried to cast out a demon by using his name. What they did was get tossed a beating.

4. They burned their sorcery scrolls.

5. That he had convinced and 'lead astray' a large number of people, and that he was basically a no-good rabble-rousing income stealing, Artemis killing punk.

6. A riot, basically.

C) 1. Not very long, I think. He traveled around and spoke words of encouragement to the people.

2. Sopater, Aristarchus and Secundus, Gaius, Timothy, Tychicus and Trophimus.

D) 1. To break bread,

2. He fell out of the window. The ornery side of me says that preachers shouldn't preach so long. The other side of me says that we shouldn't fall asleep in dangerous places. The third says that we should pay attention to God's word so we don't end up getting hurt by our own stupid fault. But even if we do fall, He will pick us up and heal us.

E) 1. He wanted to try and reach Jerusalem by Pentacost.

2. To keep watch over themselves, and the flock. And that they should be on guard, because savage wolves would arise among them, even some from their own numbers.

3. Because he had told them, and they knew, that they would never see him again.

F) 1. They jumped between ships a lot, but otherwise it seemed smooth sailing. It sort of seems like they traveled on cargo ships from destination to destination, rather than passenger vessels (if those even existed back then. O_o).

2) They urged him not to go to Jerusalem.

G) 1. Phillip the Evangelist, one of the seven.

2. By begging him to remain with them instead of going to Jerusalem to face hardship and possibly death.

V. The Trip to Rome

A.

1. That thousands of jews were converted, yes they were correct
2. Purified himself according to tradition
3. They assumed Trophimus was with Paul
4. They had to carry Paul
5. Paul spoke of his zeal and conversion
6. The death of Stephen
7. Scourge a Roman citizen
8. Ananias the high priest
9. Paul knew that the council was divided into pharisees and sadduceeshe told them that he was a pharisee
10. The LORD (cool!) Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.
11. he learned of a conspiracy to kill Paul and told him of it
12. Two hundred soldier to bring Paul safely to Felix
13. he does not think that Paul deserves death or bondage

B.
1. a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes and profaning the temple
2. they neither found me in the temple disputing with any man, neither raising up the people, neither in the synagogues, nor in the city: Neither can they prove the things whereof they now accuse me.
3. In custody but allow friends to visit him. 2 years
4. To please the jews. Paul refused because he should be tried in Rome, he did not harm the jews.
5. To get a fair trial
6. Agrippa did not have jurisdiction but he was familiar with Jewish customs
7. Paul was raised a pharisee the very people accusing him, Jesus changed his life
8. to preach to the Gentiles
9. That Paul doesn't deserve to be imprisoned or killed, had he not appealed to Caesar he would have been set free

C.
1. Julius the ship was called Adramyttium
2. The wind was against them, they stopped by Fair Havens but could not stay there for the winter
3. "Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives." They ignored him.
4. tempestuous wind, can't sail against it
5. And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of [any man's] life among you, but of the ship. An angel told Paul this.
6. Paul said that they had to remain on the ship to be saved, the let go of the smaller boat
7. Melita, the guards were going to kill the prisoners so they wouldn't escape
8. they thought he was a god since he survived a venomous snake bite
9. they boarded a ship, he found brethren there
10. Paul got his own dwelling with a guard. God's grace?
11. Paul testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and [out of] the prophets. Some believed and others did not.
12. Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and [that] they will hear it.
13. And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him,

A) 1. That Paul was teaching them to turn away from Moses, and not to curcumcise their children or live according to their customs. In a way, he was was. Paul taught that under Jesus, the law was no longer in effect, and so circumcision or uncircumcision was no longer the point, and that you could use freedom to do things that were against the OT law, and yet still fulfill the law of love.

2) He took a few guys and went through the process of purification with them.

3) He had been hanging out with Paul around Jerusalem, but he had never entered the temple, which the Jews assumed he had.

4) The mob got so violent that the soldiers had to carry Paul.

5) That he had once been as strict as they were in regards to the law, but Jesus had called him to repent of his sins and preach to the gentiles. And that he still followed the One God, but in the right way.

6) When he told them he had been called to go to the gentiles.

7) He almost beat the crud out of Paul, a Roman citizen.

The high Priest.

9) He brought up the ressurection, which some believed in and others did not. The two groups split into arguing, but a few people stood up and were open to listening to Paul.

10) Jesus. He told him to take courage, for he also had to testify in Rome too.

11) He learned about a group of men who had sworn to kill Paul. He told Paul about it.

12) 200 soldiers, 70 horsemen and 200 spearmen. Because the Jews would apparently stop at nothing to kill Paul. He may also have been guarding his bum, hoping Paul wouldn't bring up his near beating.

13) How he had found Paul, the accusations leveled against him, and that he was placing him nuder his care for judgment. Also, that Paul was technically innocent.

B. 1) That he was stirring up riots, he was a ringleader of a religious sect, and that he tried to desecrate the temple.

2) That he hadn't been the one making the disturbance, that he followed the God of their fathers according to 'The Way' and that he was ceremonially clean when he entered the temple.

3) He was under house-arrest for around two years.

4) To do the Jews a favor, he wanted to take him under trial there; Paul had done nothing against the Jews, so he appealed to Caesar.

5) By appealing to Caesar.

6) Mostly, I think Agrippa wanted to hear him. Festus may also have just been at a loss, and wanted another insight. I do not think he had any say; maybe if they'd been in Jerusalem. I think Agrippa would've understood because he ruled Jerusalem, and was acquanted with their laws and ways.

7) He told him how he was raised in the strictest form of the Jewish religion, and that only an encounter with Jesus changed his life.

To go and preach to the gentiles, to open their eyes, and turn them from darkness to light, and from Satan to God.

9) That Paul had done nothing wrong, and could have been set free had he not appealed to Caesar.

C) Other prisoners, soldiers, and a Centurion named Julius. Also Luke.

2) Winds were the issue, I think; The centurion ignored Paul saying they should stay, and listened to the pilot and the owner of the ship and set sail.

3) That they were going to have trouble with the voyage. The men reacted by ignoring him.

4) I cheated. Th NIV says 'northeaster'. It's a gigantic storm. There's no end of problems it can cause a ship.

5) That the ship was, as he had said earlier, lost; but their lives were not. An angel had told him.

6) That the sailors had to stay with the ship, or everyone was dead.

7) The island of Malta; the soldiers had planned on killing the prisoners so they would not escape.

They first thought him a prisoner who could not escape his fate; then they thought him a god, because he didn't die of a poisonous snakebite.

9) A ship that had wintered at the island carried them. He found Christians there.

10) He was allowed to live by himself, but with a soldier to guard him.

11) That the Jews in Jerusalem had tried to kill him, but that he had done nothing deserving of deat, and so appealed to Caesar.

12) He told them of Christ.

13) Two years; boldly and without hindrance he preached the kingdom of God, and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ.

I feel more than a bit whiny complaining about it, but man...that was a looooong study. O_O
