It's a late 18th century Gothic novel.

Basically, a monk is seduced by a woman disguised as another monk, and then he forces himself on and kills this other woman, finds out the first one was a succubus and the second was his sister, and then he sells his soul to the devil.

Fun stuff, eh?

Why is it I found The Tomb of Ligeia disappointing?

Hmm...no.

I think it was the shift in focus. The original story was more about the side effects of the death of a loved one, and the power of the will. tbqh, it's one of two romances I not only like, but loved, the other being Tolkien's Lay of Leithan, which had dismemberment and other such.

The movie...was about that guys insanity. And that's pretty much it.

You'd have to read to story to get it I suppose.

Perhaps. I've not read the story and saw the movie years ago.

Also...no. I'm not big on apocalypse films. Which I consider that to be. It's not in the strictest sense, but close enough.

Never saw the remake with Willy Smith either.
