I loved it.
Still do, but I don't live there anymore.

Deep. Everything is opinion.
Do me a favor and stop trying to be so "renegade" that you feel that you have to point that out. I've extensively traveled the southwest, and I can tell you that Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico are pretty durned terrible.
But then, if you disagree with me, it's MY opinion. Oh boy. That really discredits my statement.
How about the next time you feel the need the say that, instead of acting socially maladjusted, you say something to the effect of: "Really? I loved it. Still do, but don't live there anymore." It comes off as less passive aggressive, less confrontational, and has the potential to make less people annoyed. Oh, and also more mature.

You were telling him about Buddha, you were telling him about Mohammed in the same breath. You never mentioned one time the Man who came and died a criminal’s death...

You used a lot of big words there, Drew, but I don't think you acted any more mature . . .

So if I were to, say, brutally murder someone, and I don't think it's wrong, that can be OK right?Drewsov wrote:Deep. Everything is opinion.

Chozon, yeah, that's opinion, because it falls under ethics and morals. But then, it also depends on whether you get caught, go to a jury trial and the findings of that trial. You could still believe you were in the right and be rotting away in prison.

Well that's dumb. You basically declared all of God's laws null with that post. Especially if you add in Romans 14.
Either everything, including evil, is opinion. Or there is a definitive right and wrong. Which is it?

Moral relativism is fun.

For the record, I don't believe that there's pure good and pure evil on this earth. I believe in shades of grey. This informs my statement, and doesn't nullify God's laws.
And yes, Chozon... yes, everything is opinion. As a "for instance," take a look at wfer. He doesn't believe in God. That's his opinion. You and me... we both believe in God. That's our opinion. We have faith that God is real and exists and affects our lives on a regular basis. This can't be fact, because we have nothing empirical to back it up... but it's the truth to us, just like the truth to me is that the southwest is an atrocious wasteland of backwoods hicks.
See, I'm willing to concede that others' belief systems have validity, even if I don't agree with them. That's where I come from. That's how I was raised and it's kind of the way I look at the world. You don't have to agree with that... and again, that's opinion.
Like Deep said: my opinion. He just doesn't have to go pointing it out every five minutes, because in a fully functioning conversation, there is give-take and this is assumed rather than stated.

That means you're gambling on God's existence though. It's like saying that our faith and belief in Him is what causes Him to exist, and what really matters in life.
You said you're willing to accept others beliefs, even if you don't believe in them. What good does that do? Either God exists, making us right, or He doesn't, making us hopeless dupes of twisted men from the past. Are you willing to accept that? Knowing that you could be an absolute idiot?
You make it seem like truth is relegated from how you look at life. Our truth is in God, and wfer's truth is in himself. But if something isn't correct, it can't be truth, can it?

That's something you have to figure out for yourself.Chozon1 wrote:That means you're gambling on God's existence though. It's like saying that our faith and belief in Him is what causes Him to exist, and what really matters in life.

I'm not gambling on God's existence, and I'm certainly not saying that I believe any other belief system but mine to be correct - correctness and validity are not synonyms. It allows me to accept those people and show by example. I don't evangelize. I don't like doing it. I feel out of place and weird about it. I see people with other belief systems and I can accept them for what they are, and then I can show them who I am and what I believe - not through words but by action. That's what good it does, Chozon.
You're not seeing things fourth dimensionally enough, in other words.
Consider from my perspective, that there is not really pure good and pure evil from a human standpoint. That doesn't eliminate God, does it? That doesn't eliminate the pure goodness of God or the pure evil of God's antithesis.
And why would you go so far as to call me an absolute idiot? Do you think that actually does anything? Hardly. I never said that God didn't exist or that I don't believe that he did. I never said that any other belief system is right. I'm not saying this with the intention of you reading between the lines, dude. I'm being open and honest with you, and somehow, I'm not getting my point across, which is pretty baffling to me.

Hmm...I didn't call you an idiot. I typed that wrong, or you read it wrong. Maybe both. Go read it until you see "Would you believe something that, in the end, could leave you as an idiot?"
Fur srs, I may argue with you, but you're a friend. I try not to seriously insult friends.
Showing through actions is arguable more important than words. I've had the not-fun experience of Christians talking the talk, but acting like jerks 20 minutes later. If you have to give up one, then give up talking. Good on ya.
But that doesn't help when the words you say seem to speak of relativistic tendencies, or accepting anything as truth, because truth comes from you're point of view, not something that actually exists. What good does showing actions do when you're just going to say:
"For the record, I don't believe that there's pure good and pure evil on this earth. I believe in shades of grey. Yes, everything is opinion. He doesn't believe in God. That's his opinion. You and me... we both believe in God. That's our opinion. We have faith that God is real and exists and affects our lives on a regular basis. That's...contradictory, to say the least. "I'ma show you God through my actions, but His existence is a matter of opinion." Why should I give a rip about that? Why not just join the peace core?
"Consider from my perspective, that there is not really pure good and pure evil from a human standpoint. That doesn't eliminate God, does it? That doesn't eliminate the pure goodness of God or the pure evil of God's antithesis."
No. Not really. But it limits His laws, and everything He has to say about right and wrong. God is still there, but every time He says "This is wrong" you're effectively saying "No, it's not. That's up to me to decide." This does not work in my mind...Aye, the new covenant covered the sins of humanity, and we're no longer bound to serve punishment by the old laws. But they still exist. Paul, Peter, and the rest of the NT crowd laid down a moral code, that is right and given by God. If you disregard that, why believe the Bible at all? Sure, Jesus died for your sins. The greatest gift in all of history. But it's useless if you htink that sin only exists as you see fit.
I hope I'm missing something here...
