Well, yes.....
Programming a backdoor into anything is really hard unless you are staring from the ground up.
Otherwise there are "Hacking" programs (Under the name of security testing) that could get you what you want.
But why do you want into your brother's computer?

But suffice to say, he somehow lost his administrator rights on his laptop, and there is no conceivable alternative.

Nah.
For Laptops, MAYBE.
But desktops, you can get an infinitesimally better desktop by building from newegg.
Or if you must have a pre-built, go with ibuypower.
They are pretty good value.

Did you also find Hunters extremely easy in HL2:E2 when flinging tires at them? Took down many by hitting them with a tire using the gravity gun. And it's on Hard mode too.

No gore in Halo, just blood.
Well, unless you count the bodies laying there for a bit as gore...
The blood goes away too. (About a minute)
But I'd just try the demo and evaluate it from there.
