SAN MATEO, Calif. - Oct. 1, 2025 - Below the Crown, a love letter to chess, roguelikes, and dungeon crawlers from developer Misfits Attic (responsible for the 20+ award-winning strategy game Duskers), will launch on PC via Steam Early Access on Monday, Nov. 10, 2025. The debut demo today at 9 a.m. PT on Steam.

Covet great riches and please the Emperor by engaging in a satisfying mix of chess, spell slinging, and strategy. As a Wizard, lead a party of chess-inspired pieces, including Bishops, Knights, perhaps even a Mad Queen, to brave a mysterious, ever-changing dungeon.

Outwit the enemy with superior strategic maneuvers, or wing it by flinging freezing spells and explosions. Collect and assign magical runes to increase the challenge level of the next run. Acquire new skills and spell cards to expand the tactical possibilities, as well as the fun.

Connect with the community by competing in challenges, creating and sharing custom boards, and watching repays of other Wizard’s high scores. Post epic victories for all to admire, and answer glitchy psychological evaluations to uncover what’s really going on below the crown. Don’t worry, just answer honestly, and move on with more badass wizard shenanigans.

Engage in an approachable and dynamic experience that honors the dynamism of chess, now with a magical, dark ‘80s sci-fi twist. Below the Crown was created by industry veterans who have worked on everything from well-known series Diablo and Call of Duty to DreamWorks classics, including Shrek 2, How to Train Your Dragon, and Bee Movie.
